Beyonce named honorary chair for Costume Institute gala

Beyonce has been named honorary chair of this year's Costume Institute gala, WWD reports.

The singer's name reportedly appeared on invitations sent out for the annual event, set to be held May 6 at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The gala, which brings together Hollywood stars and fashion industry elite, is considered one of the top red carpet events of the year.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci and actress Rooney Mara are among the co-chairs for the 2013 event. It's possible, WWD notes, that Beyonce could join them on the gala's receiving line in her role as honorary chair.

The 31-year-old made an entrance at last year's Met gala in a sheer, feathered Givenchy haute couture gown.

This year's benefit celebrates the Costume Institute's "Punk: Chaos to Couture" exhibition, which opens to the public on May 9 and runs through Aug. 14.
