(CBS/AP) - Aziz Ansari is the latest  star to bring his standup special straight to his fans. The "Parks and Recreation" actor is bypassing cable networks to release his latest comedy special on his website.

Ansari's "Dangerously Delicious" standup special is now available online worldwide for $5. Fans can download or stream the 60-minute show without commercials or restrictions.

Ansari explained the reason behind his choice on his website.

"I paid for the production myself and wanted to release it online," he wrote. "While I was trying to figure out the proper method of release, my friend and hilarious comedian Louis CK did his whole thing and it seemed to me that people really liked that model, so that was the route I decided to go."

Fellow comic Louis C.K. sold his "Live at the Beacon Theater" online in December and brought in more than $1 million.

Ansari has promoted his appearances to his 1.7 million followers on Twitter and plans to use the site to spread the word about his new special.

In addition to his standup comedy shows and NBC series, Ansari will voice a part in the upcoming animated film, "Ice Age: Continental Drift," due out this summer.
