While the titular role has yet to be cast, actress Saoirse Ronan ("Atonement," "The Lovely Bones") is rumored to be a frontrunner.

The feature is scheduled for a June 2012 release. It should not be confused with Universal's take on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, "Snow White and the Hunstman," which reportedly has actress Kristen Stewart in talks for the lead role and Charlize Theorn playing the Evil Queen.

Hammer, who has appeared on such TV series as "Gossip Girl" and "Desperate Housewives," will next hit the big screen alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Clint Eastwood's biopic, "J. Edgar."
