Apple to hold iPad event on Oct. 22, report says

Apple plans to unveil its the fifth-generation iPad and new iPad mini on Oct. 22, according to a report by AllThingsD.

Citing people familiar with Apple's plans, the tech blog says both new iPads will likely have Apple's new 64-bit A7 chip. It's been rumored that the iPad mini will come with a Retina display, however reports suggest that production of the screens has been delayed.

The company is widely expected to show off a new iPad with a thinner body, improved camera and improved hardware. There is some speculation that both tablets will also get Touch ID -- a fingerprint sensor that was introduced with the iPhone 5S.

AllThingsD says that Apple will give an update on its new operating system OS X Mavericks.

Apple announced the fourth-generation iPad and introduced the iPad mini at an Oct. 23 event in San Jose, Calif.
