Apple may launch iPhone 5S in August, new iPad in April

Apple may start rolling out updates to its iPad and iPhone lines as early as April, a recent report says.

According to the blog iMore, the tech giant is planning on releasing the next-generation iPad and the smaller iPad mini in the spring, while the iPhone 5S may come out in late summer.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, the blog claims that the next iPhone will be announced in August and have the same design as the iPhone 5, but with better hardware. IMore did not report any additional details on possible features.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also predicts a late summer launch date for the next iPhone, according to reports by Mac Rumors and Apple Insider. Kuo speculates that the iPhone 5S will have an A7 chip, a better camera and a hybrid fiberglass-plastic casing.

IMore also claims that the next iPad and possibly and iPad mini will come out in April. If Apple releases a new line of tablets, it may just be a bump in specs, the blog speculates.

Apple announced the iPhone 5 in September 2012. The smartphone has a 4-inch 1,136 x 640 pixel display, 4G LTE connectivity, A6 chip and weighs 112 grams - 18 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter than iPhone 4S.

The fourth-generation iPad and an iPad mini were announced in October 2012. The new iPad features an A6X processor, faster Wi-Fi and Lightening connector. The iPad mini has a 7.9-inch screen with 1,024 x 768 display resolution, front- and rear-facing cameras and 1080p HD video recording.
