"American Horror Story" renewed for season 5

No spooky surprise here -- "American Horror Story" has been renewed for a fifth season, on the heels of scaring up record ratings for its latest premiere.

The debut of "American Horror Story: Freak Show" last week became the most-watched TV episode in FX history, Entertainment Weekly reports. The episode earned 10 million total viewers (with 6.54 million in the 18-49 demographic) when factoring in those who watched it over three days of delayed viewing.

Series co-creator Ryan Murphy thanks fans of the horror anthology when sharing the good news on Twitter.

"Freak Show," the fourth season of "AHS," takes place at a sideshow carnival in 1950s Florida. The cast of characters includes a bearded lady (Kathy Bates), a woman with two heads (both played by Sarah Paulson), a strongman (Michael Chiklis) and Jessica Lange as the German expat who presides over the band of carnies. There's also an evil clown named Twisty.

For those who've tuned in all the way through, we've been to the Murder House, the Asylum, the Coven and now the Freak Show. What could be next? Murphy apparently already knows, and told EW he's hidden clues to what the next theme will be in the first two episodes of this current season.
