An "American" fighting alongside Somali Islamist militants who had been featured on al Jazeera Arab news channel was also mentioned in a statement by the Somali Mujahedeen Youths Movement, which claimed that he led a battle in a town called Baidawa. The statement identified the American as filed commander Abu Mansour al Amriki and claimed the group, under his command, managed to oust Ethiopian forces out of the town of Baidawa. Abu Mansour had been features on al Jazeera on October of 2007. He was described as a field commander in charge of training members of the Islamic Courts Union to fight against government and Ethiopian forces.
