Aflac: Who will replace Gilbert Gottfried?

Gilbert Gottfried arrives to the 14th Annual Webby Awards in New York on June 14, 2010. AP

(CBS) Gilbert Gottfried was fired Monday as the voice of Aflac's quacking duck, after the comedian posted a string of mocking jokes about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan on Twitter over the weekend.

Now that he's no longer the company's spokesduck, who will take his place?

Aflac said it will start a nationwide casting search for Gottfried's replacement. The insurer also noted that Gottfried is not the voice of the duck in Japan. The mascot has a softer, sweeter voice in Japanese commercials.

Gottfriend's posts were removed from Twitter on Monday after Aflac announced it would no longer be working with him.

"Gilbert's recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac," Michael Zuna, the company's chief marketing officer, said in a statement obtained by the New York Times. "Aflac Japan - and, by extension, Japan itself - is part of the Aflac family, and there is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times."

Gottfried has been the voice for the mascot in numerous commercials for the company since 2000.

Who do you think should replace the comedian as the Aflac spokesduck? Should another celebrity take over, or should it be someone unknown? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
