The story, by now, is well known: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot in the head and an aide was killed Saturday when an assailant opened fire in an area where the lawmaker was meeting with constituents.

The shooting rampage claimed six lives, including a 9-year-old child and U.S. District Judge John Roll, officials said. Thirteen more were wounded at the scene.

The chief suspect is Jared Loughner, a 22-year-old whom neighbors and friends described as a disturbed, pot-smoking loner.

While the media picks over the details of the shooting and Loughner, the chilling 911 calls, posted in videos below, provide incredible details of the incident, as well as of the rescue.
