2 charged in attack on substitute teacher

DETROIT - Two men have been charged in an attack on a substitute teacher at a high school in Detroit.

Cleveland Moore, 29, and Alonzo Griffin, 27, are expected to be arraigned Monday, according to the Wayne County prosecutor's office.

They are charged with felonious and aggravated assault following an attack Friday afternoon at Central Collegiate Academy on the city's west side.

The victim, Lorenzo Morris, told WXYZ-TV and WDIV-TV that it occurred outside a classroom after he had words earlier in the day with another teacher when he scolded her unruly students.

"She went and complained to the principal," Morris told WDIV. "She was telling them that I was inappropriate."

That teacher's husband and an acquaintance later arrived at the school. Morris suffered cuts to his ear, head and face.

One of the men had a tool used to scrape paint, Morris said.

"We bounced across the hallway into the doorway across the hall and onto the stairs," he added. "I got one guy I'm fighting with and one on my back."

The school is operated by the Education Achievement Authority, Michigan's turnaround district for low-performing public schools.

The Associated Press was unable to determine Sunday if Moore and Griffin had lawyers.
