Republicans Put Brakes On Sebelius' Nomination

(AP)
Republicans in the Senate have temporarily blocked Governor Kathleen Sebelius' nomination as Health and Human Services secretary from moving forward.

The Kansas governor had been approved by the Senate Finance Committee last Tuesday, and some expected her to be confirmed this week. But when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called for a full Senate vote, his Republican counterpart, Mitch McConnell, objected. McConnell cited the reservations of members of the Senate Finance Committee as his motivation for halting Sebelius' nomination, according to the Associated Press.

Some Republicans have previously objected to Sebelius' support for abortion rights and for her alleged failure to properly report campaign contributions that she received from a doctor who performs abortions, The Washington Post reports.

Reid will need 60 votes to get the nomination moving again, something the Democrats say shouldn't be a problem. But the process will likely take another week.

"We're confident there will be the 60 votes needed to confirm her," a spokesman for Reid told the Post.

Let them, let them, let them filibuster. Oh God let them filibuster! Just watch them while the country looks on and the elected president's pick for HEALTH SECRETARY is blocked. They will cave and the world, not just the US electorate, but the world will see them as obstructions. Obama will manage this but it would be easier if he had a person at the top.
They oppose her because she is a woman. All of Obama's cabinet are pro choice. Condi Rice was pro choice. But these idiots are trying to feel power anywhere their tiny little selves can get it.
Pathetic, tiny little men.
God help us all.

I can see that knee jerk liberals survive. She accepted support from a person indicted for illegal late term abortions and failed to report the support. Maybe she's just a little dishonest. Oh I guess that fits in with most of Obama's major appointees who didn't pay their taxes

CBSis............

What taxes have been raised since Jan 20, 2009? An answer that includes STATE authored tax hikes isn't relevant.

Our current federal government is not run by socialists, no matter how many times Rush or Sean or their like say it... haven't you heard... you're supposed to call them fascists now.

Hands up, lock step -- your leaders are leaving you behind, buddy... better catch up.

The GOP had their chance to put their policies in place with 20 years of Congressional domination and the last 8 years of monstrously failed administration. The GOP HAS NO CREDIBILITY. Their Parrots have nothing but names like "socialist", "commie" and "fascist" to rebut the current (badly needed) change in direction. Pathetic.

The Cons have no plan of their own, no vision, no clue as to what America wants. All they can do is obstruct and show that they hate America.

Let's continue to run the obsolete GOP out of Washington.

Party of "NO"

The only thing the neo-GOP will accept is THEIR FAILED POLICIES and appointment of THEIR party HACKS. So the GOP will continue to pull their pants down and pizz on everything that does not represent their EXTREMIST far-right politics, and will deface every effort that does not PANDER to their CHRISTIAN TALIBAN ZEALOT base.
