Is 14 Year Old CPAC Star The Future Of The GOP?

(CBS)
Fourteen year old conservative Jonathan Krohn won a standing ovation after his three minute speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference last month. Since then, the homeschooled middle schooler has had a spread in the New York Times, done countless radio interviews and fielded interview requests from network anchors.

This week on Washington Unplugged, Krohn told host Bob Schieffer what it is like to be such a young sensation, how he defines a conservative and what he wants to be when he grows up.

“From now on I am going to be known as a political analyst and not just a kid,” the author of the self-published “Define Conservatism” told Schieffer. “But I remember that if I get a big head about it then everything is going to be a whole lot worse than it has been.”

Watch the interview below:

Also on this week’s Washington Unplugged: Our political roundtable discusses the political implications of President Obama’s education policy, and Vanity Fair columnist Christopher Hitchens gives a blunt overview of British-US relations, American foreign policy and the experience of being water boarded.”

His parents made a choice. Pass him off to Michael Jackson or to the GOP. Either way he's screwed.

dj: You are so right. It appears that Pelosi is calling the cards on the stimulus bills because her and Reid formed the previous one. Maybe Pelosi should be the president, Reid the VP and Obama back to his senate seat that he vacated from time to time. This has been the most underhanded corrupt election of all times.

Anway, I'm glad he has opinions and a career path. Good for him.

I think its great that this kid wants to get started in politics early. Why not. Isn't it better than shooting up the campus, taking drugs, heavy on booze. I am positive Obama wanted to be in the political field when he was younger. Its a good start for this kid and good for the republicans. If he becomes a drawing card for the young people that's the good news for the republican party and bad news for the corrupt underhanded democrats.

I think it is cool that someone so young is projecting himself onto the world stage.

These comments about Nazism and creationism are really unfair, and have nothing what so ever to do with anything the guy was saying.

I personally hold nearly opposite views, but I respect his right to say what he wants to say.

I differ with him on belief in individual responsibility, as that is what got us into the current economic mess. There have been no chance of any real reprisals for stupidity since the Soviet Union fell, so of course responsibility has fallen away.

I also disagree with what he has to say about the constitution. There is no uniform interpretation of the constitution. The founding fathers started squabbling over the elastic clause before Washington was out of office. There is a term the justices use called "the living constitution," which means it evolves according to justice interpretation. The original interpretation does not allow the Federal reserve system to exist, but does permit slavery. I do believe actually, that the constitution is outdated and needs to be modified, It's 230 years old, one of the oldest.

I do not know why I am posting on this site, as only losers who can't get into real debates argue over the internet. Just like in the special Olympics, no matter who wins in internet arguments, you're still retarded. I have also found that if you pretend like you know what you are doing, people will believe you. American politics is summed up in that last sentence. As you can probably tell from my internet argument, I have not learned the proper art of pretending yet, perhaps because I think it is disgusting.

Well based on what I have seen in this story. The Democrats are the HATERS and I have 12 pages of posts to prove it. YOu refuse to accept the fact that you also played a role. Why, because you look at who the president is. None of you are smart enough to understand the branches of government

this is just a pathetic attempt by the republicans to start drawing young voters their way....much the same tactic the democrats used this last election to draw out the numbers of young voters who have not yet experienced the lies of politics.............how about both parties doing what is best for this country...RESIGN and DISBAND BOTH parties.......you have BOTH miserably failed the people...you have NEVER represented our wishes , dreams or needs. You have BOTH taken billions of dollars under the table to make laws that allowed Wall street to destroy the middle class.......Washington and BOTH parties should face charges of TREASON.

That's not too far from what they actually teach in Creationism/Intelligent Design these days; they believe dinosaurs and humans existed on Earth at the same time--but that it's all less than 10,000 yrs old. Ha!

HItler was a kid once too. I love how a little kid who has never had even the slightest daliance with health care, to lecture on health care. The fact that Republicans are so enamoured with a parrot in size 2, proves that they were indeed the ones who bought Billy Big Mouth Bass too

Many child stars have complained about missing out on their childhood by growing up too fast. There will be plenty of time for this 14 year old to be involved in adult politics, right now he should be busy doing things 14 year old do and concentrating to getting good grades and preparing for college. This kid is a novelty, nothing more.

We need MORE - not LESS politically active kids - involved with ALL parties and levels of government.

Maybe if they learn earlier they will AVOID the foolish mistakes of of the past and move this nation forward rather than endlessly repeating former mistakes and claiming ignorance of history as their excuse.

My youngest volunteered and helped with the 2000, 2004 set of elections for the local Democratic offices and in 2008 when she could finally vote, provided help for ALL the parties so the elections could be held in the most fair and honest manner as possible.

It was a good opportunity to showcase the workings of government and how it affects everyone to someone that hopefully will "make a difference" someday.

I encourage other parents to take that opportunity as a chance to "get to know" and "do something together" with their politically interested kids too.

So, if he were 14, on drugs, trying to decide if his girlfriend should have an abortion, wearing a t-shirt that says, "Keep staring I might do tricks." we can breathe a sigh of relief because he doesn't live a sheltered life? And, by knowing what he believes and being able to articulate it, we see that he doesn't know about anything? I guess if you believe that MTV and the Disney Channel are the only things there are, then maybe he is glad he doesn't know anything. Personally, I think the shelter for children who receive their education from their parents is larger than the general population thinks. It seems to do a good job of keeping out the immoral garbage being dished out at public schools as "the real world." Most homeschooled children regularly interact with same-age peers in homeschool groups or sports teams, receive an education that more closely resembles that of our forefathers, (many of whom had graduated college by the age of 14), and receive supervision, guidance and direction from the people who care the most about their future...their own parents. And this is a bad thing? I, for one, will rest easier praying that a man like the one this boy will become is the future of our country. It makes me shudder to think that some of my fellow Americans might think it wiser to elect someone who prepared for service in the highest office of our land by spending 8 hours a day (more in the summer) pushing buttons on an XBOX (giving himself a well-rounded education) and who ran on the platform that he will give tax credits only on fifth marriages, require public schools to supply all children with Red Bull as part of their "free breakfast," institute a ban on reading anything but comic books, and a mandate to redecorate the Whitehouse with posters of Megadeth.
