House Will Vote On Stimulus Friday

(CBS/AP)
The House of Representatives will vote on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Friday, an aide to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi tells CBS News' Jill Jackson. The legislation will also head to the Senate for a full vote before moving to President Obama's desk for signing. It is not yet clear which legislative body will vote first.

With surprising speed, Senate leaders announced Wednesday afternoon that a compromise had been reached on the shape of the bill. House and Senate representatives met in conference to hash out the differences between the differing versions of the bill passed by each chamber.

The timing of tomorrow's vote hinges on how quickly Congressional staff write the legislation. CBS News' John Nolen notes that when the Senate reached a compromise on a final version of its bill on Friday, February 6th, it took staff almost twenty-four hours to draft and file the bill.

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), one of three Republican senators who supported the initial legislation, said Wednesday that the bill agreed upon in conference will cost $789 billion dollars.

This is the worst piece of legislation that has come down the pike since our nation was founded. And the Democrats have done Bush one better. Included in the legislation is a national database for health records on Americans that cannot be opted out of which can be accessed on a "need to know" basis....in order to create another bureaucratic agency, and give the major universities some work for their students while they are paying those high tuition rates. Just think of the potential and future lawsuits the legal industry will reap with such legislation. Imagine how it will affect the doctor/patient relationship, or how many people will not seek treatment until their conditions are terminal for fear that such information will become public. Just think about "shopping" for insurance, with all your health records, or whether or not during a divorce or job loss you consulted a mental health professional. Think how this will compromise those in the health care field when people willfully withhold that information so it will not become public such as HIV or hepatitis.

The only "change" this administration has made is a further decline in our representative government and Constitutional violations. And Obama is friends with Warren Buffett, so we now know that it is also "corporate" interests this communistic party also represents.

When a bill is negotiated in the dark of night without both parties being present, it is TYRANNY. When only ONE party is allowed any input, for 40% of Americans this bill is nothing but TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.

Responding to Deletedid, who posted this at 12:37 PM : Feb 12, 2009:
"Obama said to congressional Republicans: You can''t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done - SO MUCH FOR BIPARTISAN AMERICA - HE%u2019S NOT LISTENING TO HALF THE SENATE EITHER - That was used only to get elected%u2026 MORE like EXTREME left!!!"

OK, let''s do some math here. The vote was 61-39. Round that off to 60-40 40. Those who voted against the stimulus bill, the portion that Deletedid claims Obama refused to listen to, are 40 out of 100. Put another way, the number of Senators for the bill (60) was one and one/half times greater than the number opposed. Any vote where the winning side gets 50% more votes (60 total) than the losing side (40) is not exactly a close vote or a lack of bipartisanship.

Obama did not "refuse to listen to" the Repubs. He went way out of his way to talk to House Repubs -- on their turf, something Bush NEVER did with House Demos -- and he spent tons of time talking to Senate Repubs. As far as the "Extreme Left," the votes that made the difference came from 3 MODERATE Repubs. The last time the Repubs had anyone who could be considered even remotely leftist was a guy named . . . oh yeah, Lincoln! We (all of us, Demos, Repubs, independents, and non-voters alike) will be honoring that Repub Leftist''s birthday next Monday. Happy President''s Day!

In 1998, Obama was ''''''''the'''''''' leader in pushing Fannie & Freddie to sell homes to poor who could not afford them. His partner at those banks - Rahm Emanuel...

The Clinton Administration CRA was intended to have Loans backed by FNMA and GMNA to provide and be of assistance to lower income (fringe) Working Class Americans. It was during the Bush (he was the president from 2000 to current) Administration that the unfettered scam of lending $money on over priced homes to unqualified buyers and then trading paper packaged on Wallstreet is how Conservatives used deregulation from the Enron Loop Hole to acquire a quick return on real property paper instead of the usual time maturity return.

Republicans cannot even take the credit for carrying out a brilliant scam, it is if someone else (the media! and the liberals! and Clintons! my frendthzzz) have been running the country during the Bush years%u2026.

I think the republican defacto leader Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are the right choices for the 2012 Elections.

Limbaugh / Palin the embodiment of republican values and philosophy.

Question: what would we do without big, bloated government?

Answer: thrive.

The huge and bloated federal government is the work of George Bush.

Bush took a balanced budget, a budget surplus and a reduced deficit and squandered all of it.

While at the same time creating the largest and most incompetent federal government with the largest budget ever.

You republicans seem to hate the very things your buddy George MORON Bush has done.

What a horse''s a s s you are.

It is not possible to be intelligent and advocate the obvious failed policies of the republican.

And certainly being a republican is nothing to be proud of.

republicans are ideologues who would never allow facts to alter their beliefs.

Please continue advocating the same failed actions so that more republicans will be voted out in 2010.

Every republican President in the last 40 years has failed the middle class.

Nixon had wage and price controls that amounted to wage controls.

Ford had WIP Inflation Now buttons. What an idiot.

Reagan presided over a short recession but during his term the to 10% gained and the middle class was stagnent

Bush I lost his bid for a second term due to his inept handling of the economy.

Bush II The topper. Has just about bankrupted the United States, and the entire World.

And republicans everywhere want to continue with those failed policies. They are so easily manipulated by Rush and Drudge.

They are told what to think, told what to say and they repeat the thoughts given to them like the good comrades they are.

...no, Democrats are the really stupid ones...this so-called plan will only benefit me and most I know to tune of $13/$14 per week in reduced W-2 taxes. Hardly one any intelligent person could categorize as taxpayer stimulative. Most of the package benefits special interest and crony groups and what little job creation there is won''t impact the majority of those currently out of work. I didn''t vote for Bush 43 either time and I proudly and intelligently didn''t vote for Obama. The Dems have done a slow ruin of our nation since the sixties with all of the pandering handouts to the so-called disenfranchised government reliant losers. We''re seeing greed from Wall St., but also from Main St. and the abject stupidity from mostly Dems, with some culpability by the Repubs.

blathered on and on about "change". Perhaps I can buy some cheaply made imported goods at Walmart. Wanting to purchase any big ticket item like a used or new car, or appliance, is definitely not in my future. What a hideous insult to the working taxpayer!

This is The President''s Bill. So, if your going to be mad at anyone, be mad at Obama. Not Pelosi or Reid. They are simply doing what Obama is asking them to do (more or less).

Also, give our new President a chance to see if he can turn things around with his agenda before you blow everything up.

We all know who''s responsible for this mess. And his name is NOT Obama. Its BUSH!!!

No way Obama can do worse. Not possible.

Bitter Republicans and the followers of the anointed consthurvative methssia Rushth Hudsthon Limbaugh are all yearning for the continued economic failure of the United States.

Conservatives are not part of the solution, they (have been) and still are the problem.

I''m really torn. I''m in a quandary not knowing how to spend the extra $13.00 per week this grandiose stimulus plan purportedly will be coming my way. Perhaps I didn''t fully comprehend that this is what the new president when he blathered on and on about "change". Perhaps I can buy some cheaply made imported goods at Walmart. Wanting to purchase any big ticket item like a used or new car, or appliance, is definitely not in my future. What a hideous insult to the working taxpayer!
