Pelosi: I Don't Respond To Limbaugh, Drudge

(AP Photo/Susan Walsh)
At her weekly press conference this morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked about criticism from Rush Limbaugh and Matt Drudge over the massive stimulus package that the House passed yesterday.

"I don't speak to that," Pelosi said. "I'm the Speaker of the House. I don't get into the popular culture."

Politico has the video. As Glenn Thrush notes, the conservative pair "spent much of the week nitpicking her stimulus bill on issues ranging from STD prevention funding to cash for the re-sodding the National Mall."

Also this morning, Pelosi appeared on CBS' The Early Show, where she discussed the uniform Republican opposition to a bill that President Obama hoped would generate bipartisan support.

"Republicans asked for several things so that they could participate in the process, and we gave them all of the opportunities they asked for," Pelosi said.

She added: "...when you're failing on the policy argument, you talk about process. And after that, you talk about personalities. They are failing on the policy aspects."

It appears to me that Nancy Pelosi is the greatest obstacle to a nonpartisan Congress. How did such an airhead get elected, and re-elected, long enough to become the Speaker of the House?

It's amazing how the republicans are willing to blame everything on the democrats now that they controll congress...do'nt they realize it took us 8 years to get to the mess were in now?Bush may have been able to take us from a surplus to a deficit over night but it's going to take Obama alittle bit longer to fix this mess that the last eight years has brought

My goodness -- my comments have really hit a nerve.

The poor misunderstood Republicans. How could I have missed they are blameless. Their defense is reduced to name calling, profanity, half truths and innuendo. I rest my case. Have a nice weekend.

Look at Wall Street today. Monies were distributed at the discretion of the Treasury Secretary. Offices have been redecorated. Private planes were purchased. Exorbitant bonuses were given. However, no credit is available to business or Main Street. The plan was a disaster....

And THAT IS THE REPUBLICANS'' FAULT. Excuse me....the sky is falling was the battle cry of Barney Frank, Paulsen, Reid, and Pelosi. It rammed through so quickly because they were told it was perilous to be rational...keeping in mind Republicans HAVE NO SAY...stupid.

Why can''t people intellient enough to think they respond not spend a bit of time GETTING THE FACTS FROM EVERY ANGLE? Chris Matthews is an idiot. Listening ONLY TO MSNBC is not going to educate you on the facts.

The Democrats may not be 100% to blame for all this c.rap, but they for sure carry the lion share of the burden simply because they have the gavels. S.crew the ''it was the Bush Administration'' retorts because you know as sure as the sun comes up it will never be uttered ''it was the Obama Administration'' in reference to any kind of failure. You people are too arrogant and undereducated in what''s really going on to admit any part of this mess is yours.

PELOSI: We didn''t come here to be -- I didn''t come here to be partisan. I didn''t come here to be bipartisan. I came here as did my colleagues, to be nonpartisan, to work for the American people, to do what is in their interests. I take credit for the great action taken by the Congress one week and one day since the president called for bold and swift action.

What a liar, she the most partisan person in D.C., the world.

The arrogance, hypocrisy and irresponsibility of the Republicans is appalling. Let us not forget that a major reason we are in this mess is the unfettered spending of the executive branch over the last eight years. Whenever the President said he wanted money or the country would face dire consequences or the war effort would implode, Congress rolled over and accommodated him without checks and balances, without transparency, and without accountability in handling the funds. To question the need was an act of treason.

Look at Wall Street today. Monies were distributed at the discretion of the Treasury Secretary. Offices have been redecorated. Private planes were purchased. Exorbitant bonuses were given. However, no credit is available to business or Main Street. The plan was a disaster.

Now, the Republicans have the unadulterated nerve to oppose a measure attempting to correct what they have wrought. The concept of compromise is beyond their scope. This isn%u2019t about winning %u2013 it%u2019s about people%u2019s lives -- their constituents%u2019 lives. They have forgotten who they represent and why they were elected.

The Republican Party has now been reduced to Rush Limbaugh and Matt Drudge drivel and way-out far right wing wackoness.

I%u2019m glad, and most Americans should be relieved that Limbaugh and Drudge have no real legislative power. The Republicans have been moved back into fantasyland.

Nice wording Pelosi - "all the opportunities they asked for" - but of course opportunities does not translate as bipartisan negotiation on any item or terms. That''s fine - Dems can hold the bag 100% for this dog pile that will cost every man woman and child in America $3000 plus interest.
