Palin: Obama’s Speeches Can’t Protect The Country

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(ERIE, PA.) - Shifting gears to focus on national security issues here on Thursday, Sarah Palin said that Barack Obama would not be able to keep the country safe.

“You know, a man can be admirable in many ways, and promising, and yet still not be ready for the most important and demanding job in the world,” Palin said after holding a roundtable meeting here on national security. “Rousing speeches can fill a stadium, but they cannot keep this country safe.”

Palin was flanked on stage by national security leaders including former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, Former CIA Director Jim Woolsey, Navy Secretary John Lehman, Ambassador Rich Williamson, Rear Admiral Marsha Evans, and Lieutenant General Carol Mutter, all of whom she met with earlier in the day behind closed doors.

At a rally here following the meeting, Palin told the crowd of several thousand that although economic issues may be at the forefront of most voters’ minds, the country risks ignoring national security challenges at its own peril.

“Gone are the days when we had placed domestic and foreign concerns in two distinct categories and just choose a president according to the priorities of the moment,” she said. “On November 4th, we need to elect a president who can handle the difficulties in the economy and the dangers of the world all at the same time.”

Palin criticized Obama for airing a 30-minute advertisement on national television on Wednesday night that didn’t concentrate more on foreign policy and domestic security.

“Instead, he wrapped his closing message in a warm and fuzzy, scripted infomercial intended to soften the focus in these closing days,” she said. “He’s hoping your mind won’t wander to the real challenges of national security, challenges that he is incapable of meeting.”

The crowd cheered Palin’s remarks on national security issues, but they were less enthusiastic about her take on the World Series.

“So glad to be here in your beautiful hometown here in Pennsylvania, and I am thrilled to be here in the home state of the world champion Philadelphia Phillies,” Palin said.

Erie residents being a mix of Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates fans, several responded with loud boos, while others rewarded Palin with blank stares.

Here is the way I look at it...Isn''t that the job of our Homeland Defense, NSA and throw in CIA, FBI?? What that tells me that Palin doesn''t seem to have all that faith in these organizations. We are to trust these agencies to secure our country. As an independent voter, several things sway my vote, and that is Obama appears to be the candidate who would sit and listen and take the facts in. Palin and even McCain doesn''t seem to shown that in all of there rallies...I have faith in the United States of America and our agencies.

"ISN''T IT IRONIC......AYERS AND KHALIDI...IN HIDING....FOX NEWS TRYING TO GET ANSWERS AND THEY ARE RUNNING WHY?" -- kight67i

Isn''t it ironic? FOX news and the other right-wing dunderheads (aka Hannity, Limbaugh) conveniently overlook that John McCain, as Chair of the International Republican Institute (IRI) provided KHALIDI with several grants for Palestinian research, including one of over $480,000?

Why do they simply ignore this, when it has been widely reported?

just the title of this article makes me laugh. Falin Palin would not have the first clue how to keep this country safe. It''s a joke to even have to defend Obama on this topic... he is just so far ahead of what she can even comprehend.

''''''''Twas the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down!

I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
Had cut off the TV
Tired of political ***.

When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
Saw McCain and his boys

They had come for my wallet
They wanted my pay
To give to the rich
Who had not fought a day!

He snatched up my money
And quick as a wink
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink

He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!

" On Exxon, on Mobile,
On Palin and Forrestal!
On Merril Lynch, On Stevens"
He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the nation
Who wouldn''''''''t stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think
On this one final note-
IF YOU DONT WANT FASCISM
GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!

"Governor Palin is correct that style is no substitute for one''''s views and heart being in the right place."

That''s why she needed 150,000 in clothes and 10 grand a week in beauty and hair treatment.

As Republicans on the McCain team have so aptly put it: "A Whack Job"

Governor Palin''''s comments are relevant in that many people seem to be voting for Obama because of what government can give them or do for them. They consequently ignore issues like foreign policy.

Nice job there,Tex.
It would''ve been nice if we finished the job in Afghanistan, but instead,we dedicated our resources, and needlessly splilled American blood for a war about oil that was started via republican LIES.

i read most of these comments when i have the time, and iam always amazed at some of the responses! palin is an insult to this country, women, and intelligent people everywhere! as a govenor, she should know that the secruity of the country is not in the hands of the president alone! this is why the president has a cabinet. bush forgot this, and brought us about as close to a dictatorship as this country has ever been. one thing obama and clinton said that i like is that when obama is faced with crisis head asks the people that know, for suggestions! someone once said ,that a person is only as smart as the people he puts around him. obama has stated time and again that he wants to have some of the brightest, innovative, folks he can find for his cabinet!if he is elected. case in point, look at who obama chose as v.p.,and look at mccains choice! and why don''t you let freedom cry folks find the highest cliff and jump off! if you want to talk about freedom, why are''nt you trying to get our habeas corpus rights back! yea! the military comm. act of 2007! why are''nt calling for the impeachment of bush and his gang for war crimes and crimes against humanity? how come you don''t tell the people how they have loss their bill of rights? icould go on, but, space won''t allow it! you people don''t care about the people in this country! you are all full of $hit!

She is ready for war with Russia -somehow I do not feel "protected" with that . My vision of that war must be a little different than hers-must be a Christian thing.

This is wht Republicans can do for our country--stop tryimg to pawn off a dyslexic, idiotic, truth and ethics challenged beauty pageant airhead as a potential leader for our country. Palin diminishes the office. Not in 2008, not in 2012, she is an idiot. Not EVER.

Palin''s stupidity is even less likely to protect the country.

It''s always possible for an intelligent person to say something stupid.

Much tougher for a stupid person to say something intelligence.

Therefore, Palin is a predictable boost to Democrats. :)

Governor Palin''s comments are relevant in that many people seem to be voting for Obama because of what government can give them or do for them. They consequently ignore issues like foreign policy. It also seems I can hear the echo of a Democrat president saying something that is being ignored in the liberal, socialist-leaning camp: "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."

****************************

This McCain/Palin campaign has done so much flipping and flopping and it is hard to keep up. While everyone is worried sick about this economy, Sarah is out there trying to scare everyone about Al-Qeida. I guess if you don''t have any solutions, bringing up the bogey man is your only chance. I feel about as confident in Sarah Palin protecting me as I would Barney Fife.

Governor Palin is correct that style is no substitute for one''''s views and heart being in the right place. It is undeniable that Obama has a redistributionist''''s mentality, judging from recorded interviews (using the phrase "economic justice"). Style will not undo his positions on economic issues or qualify him in the area of foreign policy. So, this is a good point that Governor Palin makes.

Palin is the last person on earth who is qualified to made those comments. Is she smart enough to come up with a alternative besides spewing scripts ? NO ! Perhaps if she and McCain stop attacking the opponents and start selling their alternative viable plans, their campaign wouldnt be trailing behind the opponent.
