Palin Dangles Red Meat To Heated Wisconsin Crowd

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(MILWAUKEE) - John McCain and Sarah Palin were about halfway through a town hall meeting here when a man in the audience rose to be heard.

“I'm mad! I'm really mad!” he shouted. “And what's gonna surprise you, it's not the economy. It's the Socialists taking over our country.”

The crowd of several thousand erupted in thunderous cheers, as if many of their most underlying concerns had finally been verbalized.

The man’s righteous anger set the tone for Palin, who fully embraced her role as the Republican ticket’s attack dog. Palin seemed to question Barack Obama’s character repeatedly and slammed his judgment on hot-button issues like abortion, calling on voters to hold the mainstream media accountable for failing to challenge the Democrat’s truthfulness.

Palin seemed to feed off the questions, many of which were filled with vitriol toward Obama and the Democrats. In her answer to a question about her energy policy, Palin seemed to take offense to any suggestion that she might be considered “green.”

“It's time that we start utilizing those also, and then Americans have — we've got to conserve also — and I kind of sometimes may be come across sounding a little bit green on that one,” Palin said. “No, we have got to conserve and we've gotten sort of spoiled here, America, but as we wean ourselves off the hydrocarbons and someday off some of these products made by petroleum.”

When an audience member lamented that Tom Brokaw “cleverly” did not bring up the issue of abortion at the last presidential debate, McCain reaffirmed his pro-life position but also extended an olive branch to those on the other side of the issue, saying, “We have to show compassion and courage to any young woman who is undergoing this very difficult situation.”

Palin was more direct in wielding the verbal hatchet against Obama.

“And I appreciate your reminder of the compassion needed in this issue,” she said. “What I don't find compassionate is Barack Obama's vote as an Illinois senator, when three times he had the chance to vote to be able to provide health care for a child who was born alive as a result of a botched abortion.”

When a woman rose to take issue with hate crimes legislation, calling it an effort to “silence our freedom of speech,” McCain responded that although he couldn’t divine the intentions of a criminal, he would make sure that any hate crime “should have swift and sure justice rendered.”

Following up on McCain’s answer, Palin ignored the issue of hate crimes and praised McCain for defending free speech as a Naval aviator.

“Oh, yeah, the first thought that pops into my head also when you’re talking about rights, and you’re talking about freedoms is, we’re talking about Senator John McCain and what he has done for our country, in putting his country first his entire life to fight for freedoms,” she said. “And Wisconsin, here again kudos to you, your great Wisconsin Guard, about a third of your troops will be over in a war zone, in a number of months, in ’09. You guys are going to be over there again helping to defend freedom, and defend liberty and the democratic liberties that we all cherish so much.”

Is the republican party completely off it''s rocker? The economy is going to heck in a handbasket, Americans are losing more of their retirement funds on an hourly basis, and the republicans are campaigning on trivial BS...they have no idea what''s going on with the average American right now. Vote the republicans out from the courthouse to the Whitehouse.

Seems she didn''t understand the idiom "being green" as in being inexperienced. She seemed to try to create a response on environmentalism, but clearly did not expect a McCain-Palin rally to have someone who was env friendly!

Yep. And Palin is from the 2nd most socialist state in the country in terms of Federal $ provided per capita.

Also, McCain is a fascist for pushing for deregulating the same financial system we are now bailing out with debt for our children to pay off.

We don''t have to worry about socialism - what we have to worry about is fascism. Where the laborers support the holders of capital and the governement is controlled by the holders of capital and their interests.

And where the government listens in on phone calls or arrests people because they aren''t ''patriotic'' enough to support Bush/Cheney policies that killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi''s and added $5,000,000,000,000 to our national debt in 8 long years.

These McCain/Palin rallies are getting increasingly looney with the hatemongers lashing out when the government doesn''t control our lives the way they think it should.

Personally, I don''t agree with abortion - but can you imagine where we would be economically if all the unwanted fetuses that had been aborted (98.97% of them in the first 5 weeks of pregnancy) had all been carried to term?

Besides abortion is never illegal if you have money - those families just send their daughter''s on a two week ''vacation'' to a clinic in Central America like they did in the 50s and 60s.

Wake up before its too late!!

This Republican Administration has now socialized banks and insurance companies, but not oil companies... why not ??? Oh... I forgot, they support dictators and conservative wingnuts. It''s the Republicans who are socializing businesses. Privatize profit, Socialize debt. Screw the middle class. National socialism is rearing it''s head Amerika. It''s called the Republican Party. Those people at the Palin rallies are today''s Brown Shirts. That''s right folks, they''re NAZI FASCISTS. They won''t talk issues, so instead they want to scare you with discredited ideas such as Obama is (1) a terrorist (2) Muslim (3) Socialist/Communist.

Wake up America !!! McCain/Palin are fascists. Palin supporters are now praying that McCain wins and then dies so Palin will have her finger on the nuclear button and bring about the End Days. If you love this country, vote for intelligent thoughtful people who can get this country out of the ditch.

Palin is anti-american as a member of AIP, this is what was said in a meeting held by Dexter Clark:
%u201COur current governor, we mentioned at the last conference, the one we were hoping would get elected, Sarah Palin, did get elected. There%u2019s a joke, she%u2019s a pretty good looking gal, there%u2019s a joke goes around we%u2019re the coldest state with the hottest governor. (laughter) And there was a lot of talk about her moving up. She was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town %u2014 that was a non-partisan job. But to get along and go along %u2014 she eventually joined the Republican Party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and well, I won%u2019t go into that. She also had about an 80% approval rating, and is pretty well sympathetic to her former membership.%u201C

It''s scary Who the hell is she to point fingers about radical affiliations when her own husband was the member of a radical group who wants to secede from the US and she gave a speech for them. Should we start screaming Treason!!!! If her and her husband don''t want to be part of the United States take a *** hike and quit pretending to be so patriotic your hypocracy makes me want to vomit!!!!

************************************** Guess what, these issues and people have been turned inside out through the media, raised at the primary debates.
All the information is available for those who want it.
Our country is bankrupt, elderly people are going without food and medicine . People are losing their homes in droves and entire families are sleeping in their cars. When they can no longer afford even that luxury entire families are taking to the street.

Practically everyone who protested the Vietnam war in the 60''s was considered a domestic terrorist. The national guard shot (in the back), college students at Kent State University for protesting the war. People were trying to save their country and did whatever they could to wake people up about what was happening.
Obama was 8 years old when this happened. Ayers is now a highly respected professor who works on education issues. He sat on the same board that Obama did for a non profit organization.
He and his wife also held a coffee for Obama when he was starting out running for state legislature.

Obama addressed the Rev Wright issue fully when he gave an extraordinary address to the nation about the issue of Race in our society.

WHO CARES?

As we get closer and closer to the election Palin and McCain are seeming to get more desperate. I don''t think that any TRUE Reoublican (of which I am, except for this campaign) can accept what they are saying.

This is divisive and counterproductive to our nation, our standing in the world and our ability to get out of the crisis which grips this nation, namely DEBT, whether government or personal.

We have become a nation of LOUTS, quick to borrow and quick to blame, not accepting the responsibility of our actions and this extends to giving a pass to the Republican party for the WASTE of the last 8 years.

We aren''t a safer nation, we aren''t greeted as liberators or defenders of Freedom (see Iraq, Pakistan etc). All the things we were told by Bush have come back to haunt us, hollow jingoistic posturing has put us in a hole we will spend YEARS digging out of.

I want a WHOLESALE change of the Republican party if they expect to get my vote ever again, voting democrat may make them see the light, if not, how worse can it really get?

I can not believe that there is not universal outrage at the tactics that are being used by McCain and Palin to distract the American voter from the real issues. It should frighten us all that so many people still feel that they can in good conscience vote for them. They are acting against everything that USA is supposed to stand for and resorting to fear, hatred and racial biases to obscure the facts. This is exactly what Joe McCarthy did during the anti-red crusades... Smear your opponent with innuendos and accusations! Create a scapegoat! Who cares if Obama sat on a board with Ayers and lots of other Reps and Dems?!!!!! What we should be caring about is who is best going to shepard this county through the economic crisis that we face and will create a society that will allow our children and grandchildren to strive and dream and live happy/productive lives! That is the American dream!

My response to you is this: Perhaps that is why the comments I''ve read on the Internet news sites that speak in support of Obama are so well-reasoned and are so much more articulate, grammatically correct, and free of name-calling and spelling errors than those posted by the random Obama-detractors! Actually, I read these sites extensively and have not encoutered any duplication of pro-Obama responses that appear to be a widely disseminated distribution of canned material. SDQueen2000, if Obama''s message wasn''t so right on target, it wouldn''t who, or how many times anyone posted it. It''s quality, not quantity. If your son is right, then I say this is a clever tactic of a clever campaign to elect an intelligent man. (Or is that a strategy? I always get those confused.)

They are not inciting hate, they are pointing out though that Obama is an untested, unvetted candidate with no executive experience and very, very questionable associations over the year. It''s about character, and Obama lacks in that department. I hope more Americans see that Obama only wants to take us down the quick slope to socialism funded by higher taxes for all those who actually pay income tax.

First of all, your title is distasteful and predisposed and not unlike the push poll calls I have received expressing outrage that I might vote other than Barak Hussein Obamba. I tell them I am undecided but will vote for Mac Palin. And what is killing the socialists? Sarah! Sarah, thank you for your energizing force. The really huge crowds across the country -- and these are not rock band solicitations, these really huge crowds for Mac and Palin are the message. We are not socialists, those ignorant of Soviet history -- or agreement with it, notwithstanding. We will win this race, and the slanted media, fraud/register a dead man, cannot turn this truth. We need more articles about ACORN, Obamba, Dodd, Franks and their socialist agenda which is a factor in the current financial situ.
