Obama Goes After Gun Owners In New Ad

Ben Smith points us to a new spot from the Obama campaign, "Life," that was not sent out to the press. It features a lifetime National Rifle Association member who supports the Democratic nominee. The spot has been seen in Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

"I'm a life member of the NRA," Greg West says in the spot. "I hunt, I fish, I love the outdoors. I love this country, and I support Barack Obama."

An announcer then seeks to reassure skeptics.

"Barack Obama supports gun rights," he says. "Our right to defend ourselves. The second amendment. That's the truth."

The NRA has been highly critical of Obama in its advertising and rhetoric, suggesting he would be ""the most anti-gun president in American history." The Democratic nominee has repeatedly said that would not be the case, stating that any claim that he would take away peoples' guns is "just not true."

“Barack Obama is running TV ads about guns without telling the national media because he knows they would never pass a credible fact check," RNC spokesman Alex Conant said in a statement. "Obama is the most anti-gun candidate for President in American history. He consistently worked to undermine Second Amendment rights, which is why respected pro-gun groups are harshly critical of him.”

UPDATE: The NRA today announced that it is expanding its multi-million dollar anti-Obama ad campaign. National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund ads began airing today Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan. They were already airing in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, and Colorado.

"The media spots feature a variety of people from all walks of life, including war veterans, hunters, families and former law enforcement officers criticizing the many anti-gun and anti-hunter votes cast by Obama as a state and as a U.S. Senator," the organization said in a press release.

Watch one spot below.

I wouldn''t trust BHO''s website to learn the truth about Obama''s stand on the issue. That website lists only what Obama wants you to believe, but his voting record tells a different story.

I wouldn''t even necessarily trust FactCheck either: http://clintondems.com/2008/08/obamas-connections-to-factcheckorg-exposed-by-texas-darlin/

SCOTUS supporting the Second Amendment in the Heller case in no way renders the NRA moot. Did Washington D.C. willingly comply with that ruling? No, Congress had to intervene and force them to comply. They are still trying to find ways around the ruling even now. Until people stop trying to infringe upon 2A rights, the NRA will be needed to defend the 2A.

Being an Illinois resident, I KNOW Obama is a slick, political carrerist. He will LIE and CHANGE his position as many times as it takes to get his sorry butt in office. He is a LEGENDARY gun banner and anyone who says otherwise should have their finances looked at very closely, or see if Resko got them a 2 million dollar house for 100,000. Obama is for CUTTING the military force, in a time when the world could not be more dangerous for us since Pearl Harbor.
No, people want to blame the current administration for the economic problems this country has, when in fact JUST A LITTLE connecting the dots shows clearly that the financial institutions were pressed by the CLINTON administration to lend to people who were not credit worthy. Remember a time no too long ago when it was termed "the substandard mortgage crisis"? Just how much evidence does a thinking human being need? Or am I addressing the wrong crowd here? Is it enough that someone can read a script from a teleprompter and suddenly he is capable to serve as the chief executive? For the love of GOD wake up America. Our country is in peril, and the last thing we need is a terrorist-apologist in the white house.

Well this just goes to show this lying sack of waste will say anything to get elected. Vote nObama 2008! I don''t like McCain either, but clearly Obama is the worst of the two choices. He is a fringe communist candidate that spews nothing but lies. He is anti-second amendment. He is even anti-first amendment and has been trying to ban political ads against him. He does like the government to spy on us though that is why he voted for the USA Patriot Act.

Wow! Not too many NRA members checking out CBS ... I wonder why?

There''s two kinds of folks who ain''t NRA members ... those who lie about gun-control, and how they don''t want to take anyone''s guns away ... and those who believe them.

The Supreme Court D.C. vs. Heller decision was 5-4. One vote away from millions of Americans losing their right to own guns. As it is, the decision hasn''t really done anything to give BACK those rights to the folks who have already lost them.

For 10yr from 1994 - 2004, any law-abiding U.S. citizen couldn''t purchase a pistol-magazine which held more than 10rd ... signed into law by Bill Clinton ... allowed to terminate, under Bush.

On the campaign trail, Obama has ridiculed rural America''s devotion to "religion and guns".

After the NRA gave control over the Senate, Congress, and the White House back to the Republicans, there''s almost no Democrat with an IQ over 65 willing to admit he wants to FURTHER regulate firearms.

And now the field has changed ... they don''t have to. All they have to do is appoint a couple Supreme Court justices.

The NRA supports Democrats as well as Republicans ... anyone, who''s a friend of the 2nd Amendment. If they''re saying Obama is the worst enemy of the 2nd Amendment, ever ... he''s certainly no friend.

These are facts.

Anyone who chooses to believe otherwise, deserves to lose their Constitutional rights. Unfortunately, at the cost of everyone else''s.

Now we''ll see if CBS at least supports the 1st Amendment.

Forget Ayers. Forget Charles Keating. Forget George Bush. Remember Lyndon Johnson''s "War on Poverty" (Obama''s "health care for all") and how''d that go? Remember Carter''s Soviet Peace Philosophy "Unilateral dis-armament to show them we''re not a threat" (Obama''s "talk to all leaders w/out pre-conditions) and how''d that go. Johnson''s escalation of tax rates, Nixon''s wage & price controls & Carter''s "days of prosperity in America are over" (Obama''s patriotic tax increases, federal regulations and sacrifice). How''d that go? If your over 50, you remember the downward spiral of the 60''s & 70''s, the turn around of the 80''s and the destruction of the foundation by the Bushes'' and the Clintons'' party for the last 20 years. If your under 50, or don''t remember, go back and read some Jimmy Carter (aka Barack Obama) speaches. No doubt the republicans have blown a great opportunity to continue down the path of American pride and prosperity of the Reagan era, but be careful America, we''ll get what we vote for. AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Gunz, and gun freaks with guns, are no reason to allow the same type of policy take place that has occurred under the last Republican Administration. No one is going to take away your right to own a firearm for sport or personal protection. Legislation should take place to regulate military type weaponry, or to scrutinize abuses by REPUBLICAN GUNPHILES and people that aren%u2019t in the proper mindset to own deadly weapons.

It''s amazing to me how people care more about gun control as an issue than issues that will actually have a substantial impact on our every day lives in our dismal looking future. The economy, the war in Iraq, nuclear weapons, our overall world reputation, energy independence, global warming, health care, etc. are all issues that each alone would be of more importance than whether or not you can shoot a deer for kicks or threaten your daughter''s boyfriend as he drops her off past curfew. I can''t stand you single issue voters. You''re all ignorant Americans who have helped tarnish our reputation in the world by voting for the same idiot, not once but TWICE.

Wasn''t it a Republican administration that sent Blackwater down to New Orleans after Katrina to confiscate guns from gunowners. Quite kidding yourselves the only people who will take guns away from honest gun owners are the Republicans.

I''m a pistol, rifle, and shotgun owner.

I''m a LOT more concerned about the Republicans who want to:
- eliminate my right to privacy
- eliminate my right to due process
- eliminate my right to demand a warrant before the government can intrude into my life
- reduce my right to speak freely without being labeled a "terrorist"
- restrict my right to assemble, protest, and petition the government without the Secret Service having me arrested,

I''m concerned about the precarious medical insurance I have, that could be taken away by a greedy insurance company at any moment- leaving me and my family bankrupt from medical bills.

I''m concerned about the militarism that has taken over the Republican party- a policy of placing our troops in harms way around the world for a "policy" of spreading democracy at the point of a gun while ignoring the real terrorist threats in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I''m concerned about a "HANDS OFF" economic ideology that is enriching the already rich and leaving average folks behind.

I do not believe Obama can or would "take away my guns". The NRA is a narrow one-issue group that would throw away everything else in the altar of some kind of "PURITY". f''em.

"Perhaps so, but believing something doesn''''t make it so. And we find the NRA has cherry-picked, twisted and misrepresented Obama''''s record to come up with a bogus "plan.""

Remember you''re talking about Republicans here. They''re not limited by a reality-based view of the world. In their world "belief" is all that matters.
