New Sarah Palin Clip: Keeping An Eye On Putin
Last night, we showed you what Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had to say about the economy (in case you missed it, she said we're at some risk of repeating the Great Depression). Tonight, we'll show you what Katie asked her about foreign policy - and where Palin said she stands. First, a little taste of what's to come.

(CBS)
Katie Couric: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?
Sarah Palin: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our other side, the land-boundry that we have with Canada. It's funny that a comment like that was kinda made to … I don't know, you know … reporters.
Couric: Mocked?
Palin: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.
Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.
Palin: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. And there…
Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?
Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state.

With that in mind, let me say I''m voting...against John McCain and Sarah Palin(mainly Sarah Palin)
On Russia, Palin was asked a number of questions about it, including what insights its proximity gave her. So she would about its proximity, and part of the answer was cut off. But, of course, her first thought would be to remark that Alaskans, unlike the rest of the country, have this powerful adversary right on their doorstep (which was a real concern during the Cold War). Anyone in Alaska would be conscious of that, and politicians and military and anyone in public trust have to have that in their mind. Just the other day Canada was concerned that Russia is trying to flex its muscles towards them and boosted their military alertness.
someone has to grill her--she came out of nowhere--the majority of the american people knew nothing about her, never heard her name 3 1/2 weeks ago...and there''s only so many occasions when the john mccain campaign will let her speak.
keep on grilling her katie, ladies and gentlemen of the media..so more and more people can come to realize just how RIDICULOUS the GOP VP nomination really is...seriously.
I don''t think McCain could be that naive to think up this entertaining brake in the otherwise boooring last few month. Poor McCain...... you REALLY fumbled this one.
