New Sarah Palin Clip: Keeping An Eye On Putin

Last night, we showed you what Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had to say about the economy (in case you missed it, she said we're at some risk of repeating the Great Depression). Tonight, we'll show you what Katie asked her about foreign policy - and where Palin said she stands. First, a little taste of what's to come.
(CBS)
Katie Couric: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

Sarah Palin: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our other side, the land-boundry that we have with Canada. It's funny that a comment like that was kinda made to … I don't know, you know … reporters.

Couric: Mocked?

Palin: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.

Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.

Palin: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. And there…

Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state.

Ms. Couric, during the interivew CBS network put the frosted soft look on your face (did you know that?), then put the standard High Def look on VP Palin (she looked much better). Then you put your glasses on half way through the interview to make yourself look smart, only a stupid person would have thought so. VP Palin, may you look like a fool with wrinkles, but don''t worry your days are numbered at CBS. They want a younger woman who doesn''t require special effects. CBS do everyone a favor and report the news not your opinion.

Votefreedom, you are an idiot reality denying fool who cares only for a party no matter what versus caring what is good for this country. Wake up and get your senses checked.

"Way to go Sarah! You put Couric in her place. You''''re a brilliant woman. I''''m actually surprised you had an interview with this obviously biased liberal. Great answers on Russia, Pakistan and their wonderful President, and Israel. Keep up the great work Sarah!" - Votefreedom...

Votefreedom, did you watch the actual tape of this interview or did you keep it on pause and never hit play? Or did you turn the volume down? Please let me know, I want to make sure I heard Palin''s words correctly...

It really seems to me that there is no one great ticket for this election. All things considered, I think no one that votes is voting FOR anyone...they''re merely voting AGAINST what they consider to be the greater of two evils.
With that in mind, let me say I''m voting...against John McCain and Sarah Palin(mainly Sarah Palin)

On Russia, Palin was asked a number of questions about it, including what insights its proximity gave her. So she would about its proximity, and part of the answer was cut off. But, of course, her first thought would be to remark that Alaskans, unlike the rest of the country, have this powerful adversary right on their doorstep (which was a real concern during the Cold War). Anyone in Alaska would be conscious of that, and politicians and military and anyone in public trust have to have that in their mind. Just the other day Canada was concerned that Russia is trying to flex its muscles towards them and boosted their military alertness.

Couric says Palin has cited Alaska''s proximity to Russia as foreign policy experience. Really? No! As an AP story says, that idea comes from the Charlie Gibson interview. READ THE TRANSCRIPT at ABC and see how much was distorted, especially by cutting things out or misquoting Palin (like insisting on the Iraq war thatshe had said "Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God," and "There is a plan and it is God''s plan," when ACTUALLY she said, "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God. That%u2019s what we have to make sure that we%u2019re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God%u2019s plan.%u201D In other words, pray that U.S. is making the right decisions in God''s eyes.)

it''s obviously true the american media can twist things in the direction they want to twist them. however, when the media asks a VP candidate questions that all Americans want to know the answers to--they are doing their job...whether it''s a question that the candidate can answer or not answer, whether it casts him or her in a negative light--then so be it. this is no ordinary job. sarah palin, in accepting this nomination, had to know the public scrutiny she was going to face--it comes with the job...

someone has to grill her--she came out of nowhere--the majority of the american people knew nothing about her, never heard her name 3 1/2 weeks ago...and there''s only so many occasions when the john mccain campaign will let her speak.

keep on grilling her katie, ladies and gentlemen of the media..so more and more people can come to realize just how RIDICULOUS the GOP VP nomination really is...seriously.

I want to vote to the person who will follow this GREAT American idea and concept and return my America to me and my fellow citizens forthwith..."We hold these truths to be sacred & undeniable; that all men are created equal & independent, that from that equal creation they derive rights inherent & inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, & liberty, & the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these ends, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles & organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness." Americans are tired of wastful spending,Sarah Palin cut out millions of government spending in Alaska, she will do it in Washington. The reporters who interview canidates can turn an interview into anything they want it to sound like. A U.S. Senator or Represenative, what is he or she, a person who is more interested in his pork, except for a given few, a Governor in his or her state. If CBS, Katie Couric and the other reporting agencies spent as much time on reporting the good things, of not one, but, all four canidates, instead of trying to influence the American people with trying to make canidates look unqualified, then maybe some of the blogs above would be different. Do any of you know why the Republican Party was created? Look it up and then tell me who is looking out for the American People and "AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL".

yes sarah palin was obviously brilliant when couric often had to bring her rambling, nonsensical answers to an end. "votefreedom" seemed to understand her answers however, maybe she can interpret for the rest of us

It seems to me, that Barack Obama can continue being a gentleman, for he does not need to diz Palin. She is making a total fool of herself and by herself to show that who ever enlisted her to be MeCain''s running mate , must not be wrapped to tight either.
I don''t think McCain could be that naive to think up this entertaining brake in the otherwise boooring last few month. Poor McCain...... you REALLY fumbled this one.

I am a woman and a former Republican. Since McCain insulted me and appointed Palin, and their lies continue to be revealed, I am now voting for Obama. When Putin flies to Washington, he does not fly over Alaska. Palin has not participated in any trade missions with Russia. She thinks that if she continues to repeat something, smile, wink, ramble, and make sarcastic remarks, we''ll buy it. She is ignorant and unlearned. An insult to my intelligence. No wonder they are keeping her out of the press. One blogger mentioned the abortion issue. That was a major issue for me as a Republican. What I''ve come to realize is that the Republicans have been in control of our government for eight years and control of both houses. Nothing has really changed regarding abortion. I believe it has become an issue to lie to us about just to get the pro-life vote. Palin had an opportunity to change things in Alaska, and did nothing regarding abortion. Has McCain introduced any legislation to overturn it? Republicans haven''t changed anything. My eyes are now opened. That with all of the other lies, has caused me to rethink my political party. We learned the truth about the bridge to nowhere, now we learned that there is a road to nowhere she funded. I really hope that Palin will start to speak to more interviewers and reporters. The more she talks, the more we learn how willing she is to lie for political gain. I''m ashamed of my former political party.
