Palin Camp Goes To New Lengths To Shut Out Media

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(NEW YORK) Update: After media outlets complained to the McCain/Palin campaign about its attempt to prevent an editorial presence at Gov. Palin’s first meeting of the day, a pool producer was allowed in to the photo spray with Palin and Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

She has been a candidate for the second highest office in the land for nearly a month, but Sarah Palin has yet to hold a single press conference. Now, the McCain/Palin campaign is attempting to take an unprecedented step in their apparent effort to protect Palin from having to face impromptu questions from national reporters.

Last night, the campaign provided locations for Palin’s scheduled meetings with two world leaders and Henry Kissinger to a network TV producer, who was assigned to provide editorial content on the meetings for the five television networks. The reporter was not going to be allowed to sit in on the private meetings but would be permitted to be on hand as still and video photographers took pictures at the beginning of each meeting.

But just a little more than an hour before Palin’s first meeting was set to begin, the pool producer was notified that he would not be allowed in to the photo spray. This means that the McCain/Palin campaign would get the benefit of free pictures of Palin’s meeting with world leaders without having to face the possibility that the candidate might have to answer a question from the media.

Television networks, including CBS News maintain a policy that if they are prevented from having an editorial presence at an event, they will not allow cameras to shoot it.

The McCain/Palin campaign’s effort to stifle editorial coverage of the candidate’s meetings with world leaders comes a week after CBS News asked Palin an impromptu question about the AIG bailout, while Palin made an off-the-record stop at a Cleveland diner.

After the Cleveland event, a Palin staffer told CBS News that questions “weren’t allowed.”

In Orlando on Sunday, Palin had another off-the-record stop at an ice cream shop, but the pool producer who was assigned to be in Palin’s motorcade was not notified when the candidate departed to get ice cream, and so there was no editorial presence at the event.

What kind of person is crazy enough to use a Yahoo account to conduct official government business?

And now we want to make her Vice President and give her top security clearance and access to all our nation''s secrets?

Doesn''t seem like such a good idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPi17bX_4Ec

Great, and we hope the networks follow through on this!!! She becomes less newsworthy the longer they resist her being vetted for the American public. The only thing that is "compelling" about her anymore is just how ignorant on the issues is she that they cannot allow Americans to talk to her. It boggles the mind that there are people who accept these manipulations by palin''s bush advisors without a peep. The hope is that the American public has learned a thing or two about bush advisors since they manipulated the last two elections.
A nice interview after these meetings would be one with Kissenger.

Awwww . . . the media is upset that Palin doesn''t agree with them that the road to the white house should go through them. Well who would after all the crazy lies and myths that they have helped to promote of the last 3 weeks. Granted there are issues that should be questioned about Palin. But made up stories about book banning, cutting funds for special needs families, cutting funds for teen mothers etc . . . Their credibility with Palin has been lost. I''d hesitate to give them anything if I were in her shoes. They seem to be doing a bang up job of finding stories on her without her help

The isolation of a major party''s VP choice is beyond the pale. At first is was questionable but somewhat understandable. Give her time to get in the race. But by now it''s crazy and unacceptable. What, is she just on the ticket as a symbol? She could be a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world!

Frankly, I wish the entire press corp would completely abandon her, McCain, and their handlers. That this woman is prepared to be Vice President, much less President, is a complete and total sham. She can''t stand the heat so she fires the chef and abandons the kitchen. Sarah Palin is not capable of standing on her own two feet. Never has been, never will be. She''s only as strong as the people she has surrounding her that are given the task of covering her rear end....first Tad, now McCain handlers. This is setting back the cause and making a mockery of all that women have fought for. In truth, the Republicans don''t have a VP candidate but I''ll bet Jeff Dunham has gotten himself a brilliant idea for a new puppet.

The GOP has turned into something akin to the Nazi party in WWII with their propaganda. Really sick. Thwe re[publicans certainly don''t deserve to be voted in...vote out the GOP from the courthouse to the Whitehouse.

I agree and am not impressed with the limits being imposed by the McCain camp. Its just that the stuff the media has given us so far has been trash. We need to be hearing from the candidates on their voting records and what they have done for their constituents. Not about teen pregnancy or if she can be VP and a mom or if her prayer at church was appropriate. They haven''t been given much to go on I realize but at least stick with facts about their public service record.

If she can''t stand the heat from the media, and she''s only a candidate-what the hell is she going to do IF her party is elected? Spotlight is a big part of the job. Of course I guess she realizes that McCain and she won''t be getting into the White House unless it''s by invitation from President Obama! I was still in the process of choosing whom to vote for and her nomination, listening to her, reading about her and now this has pushed me to DEFINETLY voting for OBAMA!!!!!!

The bottom line is the republican camp knows if the press get a free shoot she''s going to show her true colors.

PBS is doing one of those instant online polls to ask "America" if they think Sarah Palin is fit to be Vice President.

The GOP has launched a successful all out blitz to get Republicans to go on the site and click "Yes". As a result right now it looks like 50% of "America" thinks Palin is qualified. The Republicans
are going to be milking this for all its worth in their press efforts.

We need to drive more Democrats and those opposed to Palin to the site to click "NO". Let''s not give the GOP another easy weapon to put in their PR arsenal!

Here''s the link:
http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

You don''t have to enter your email address or anything, just click "NO."

Truthfully the bottom line is that anyone who votes for McCain just because Palin is on the ticket is a complete and utter dumba#%^%. Voting for anyone because of their gender, race or color shows how stupid and ignorant you are -- it really makes you look so incredible stupid I cannot even say it enough. I am so ashamed when I hear any female say they will vote for McCain because of Palin ---- it makes me sick to my stomach to realize there was so many dumb@#%^ women out there.

I guess THIS is the kind of presidency we can expect from a McCain/Palin ticket. Some transparency, right? We have enough troubles at the moment, voting McCain & Palin into office will make things absolutely unbearable in this country. This is one very unhappy voter...

The choce of this candidate demonstates the level of thought McCain will put into any decision. This shoudl put up major warning flags to all. What do they have to hide? I think they are trying to hide an incompetent, inexperienced candidate who can maybe govern a town of 6,000 or run a decent PTA meeting.

This reminds me of the very 1st TV commercial for the Infinity car several years ago. The commercial never showed the car but spoke highly about the mysterious car.

I cannot believe those whom will vote for McCain without knowing Sarah Palin.

If there is nothing to hide, stop this ''protecting my little girl'' nonsense.

So why not have press conferences?
What better way to get facts out to the American People?
Do the AMerican people have the right to try and get to know who this person really is? Or should we just accept the pretty package that is being sold to us, without ever being allowed to look inside?

Truly there can be no doubt that McCain has lost his good judgement by picking Palin. It also might indicate that McCain has early onset of dementia. Palin is the worst candidate of any party to ever be considered for the VP position. I am not a democrat but I will be voting for Obama/Biden because Palin scares the blazes out of me. Voters should turn away from the Palin/McCain ticket because that''s what it is, Palin for president. McCain is too old and shows it at 72, he is stumbling on his words and is forgetful and cantankerous. McCain could very well die in office or become mentally incompetent.

That she was tough as a pitbull.

But what we are seeing is that she is timid without her script and deathly afraid of being asked a question by a reporter.

I don''t think it is a good idea to hire somebody without a couple of interviews, do you?

How can you pick a VP, then be ashamed to let her comment to the press? Obviously they are afraid (in their mind) the dumb woman is gonna say something stupid or not know about another issue like the Bush Doctrine, and then the secret will be out that she is totally unqualified to be Vice President. Well guess what McCain, WE ALREADY HAVE FIGURED THAT OUT OLD MAN!

After the Cleveland event, a Palin staffer told CBS News that questions %u201Cweren%u2019t allowed.%u201D

Well. I guess that answers a lot of questions about the GOP stealth VP candidate''s knowledge base, experience, qualifications, and readiness to become POTUS if needed.

She is being shielded from view, from just and proper scrutinty by the public to hide all that she lacks and all that she has that she needs to hide.

This act, by itself, disqualifies both the candidates for office. You can''t hide from the voters and expect any trust. Anyone who votes for this (pardon the expression) "pig in a poke" is making a very risky purchase without inspecting the item beforehand. "Caveat emptor" Let the buyer beware. Be very aware and afriad of this hoax of a VP.

Bush was(God that sounds good) such a low brow that we don''t need another person be she a female or a male in this high an office....just look at the damage done to our nation when the stupid vote gets its way. Democracy....has its flaws as Jefferson noted, when the population is full of the ill educated and the dumbed down...and Palin fits the bill...better suited to American Idol than the White House.

She''s held two interviews; Biden''s given 84 interviews. Geraldine Ferraro was out stumping the day after her nomination. This is outrageous -- and unprecedented --behavior on the part of a political leader. When the media tries to get answers for the public, they''re accused of scrutinizing her too closely. We should all be highly insulted by this secrecy and withholding of information.
