Obama Says If He Wins Florida, He Wins the White House

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(MIAMI) - Barack Obama will be campaigning in Florida for the second day in a row today, making up for lost time during the Democratic primary, when the Democrats agreed not to campaign here after the state moved it's primary to January, in violation of party rules.

At a fundraiser here last night, Obama’s pitch to donors included a prediction – if he wins Florida, he will win the election.

“I’ll tell you, we can win this thing without Florida, but boy, it’s a lot easier if we win Florida,” Obama said, adding, “If we win Florida, it is almost impossible for John McCain to win.”

While speaking at the home of supporters, Irene and Chris Korge, Obama also had sharp criticism for both George Bush and John McCain’s response to this week’s financial crisis. Obama accused Bush of being absent, saying that there has been a “vacuum” of leadership from the White House. “Here we have the greatest crisis probably since 9/11 and our president was absent.”

He went on to link McCain to the Bush Administration, charging him with having to borrow ideas from Bush and Karl Rove because he doesn’t have his own.

This morning, Obama will deliver the weekly Democratic radio address, where he will focus on the economy. He heads to Daytona Beach for a women’s rally and will wrap up the day in Jacksonville.

If Obama wins Florida, it''s a done deal. But I think he better have another strategy. The large population of seniors in Florida are going to be predisposed to vote for McCain.

Senior''s views are based on social values and also social stigmas that existed 50 years ago. It may not be said in public, but predjudice is a hard thing to overcome.

===========================

When they see how the rich and GREEDY have taken their retirement accounts from them, they won''t care what color Barack is as long as they believe he will stick up for them. McCain sure won''t. He is integral part of the greedy players that scooped their life off the table.

Hope you''re right!

Here in VA it''s going to be close. We''ve traditionally gone red, but we''ve been working hard to get people registered. Northern VA (next to Washington DC)is heavily weighted toward Obama, but the southern region (more rural next to TN and KY) is still a Republican stonghold.

THE NEXT DAY:

"Well, ummm, well, let''s see... here''s the deal, the fundamentals of the economy are the working men and women of America and if you disagree with me you are against the average American."

LMAO!!!

ARE YOU STUPID ENOUGH TO VOTE FOR McCAIN/PALIN???

I was at the event at the Korge home last night and Senator Obama did say with a Florida victory it was an easier road. AS a Cuban American veteran I can state that in the Cuban community which normally votes Republican all the younger and higher educated Cubans are firmly lining up for Obama and we are working on more every day. The Korge home also had lots of Jewish supporters in it and they too are working hard to insure their community votes OBama. Painting Florida Red is not going to happen. Obama has 60 offices and a strong ground game in Florida and Mc Same only has fifty(50) offices nationally. We have 43 days to stay focused and work hard for Obama which we will do. I am a veteran who wont forget that Mc Same did not support the GI Bill and that fuels my working hard in the Cuban and veteran community for Obama. Si Se Puede! Yes We Can! Raul Pedraza

It is also funny how they bailed out AIG because the Democratic speaker of the house had more than 2 million invested there as well as many other democratic senators. I wonder how much Obama had invested there.

"ARE YOU STUPID ENOUGH TO VOTE FOR McCAIN/PALIN?"

Let''s see, Obama had 140 days in the Senate and no record of any accomplishments since graduating college, has one position which is to slam someone who isn''t even running, wants to steal from the wealthy with promises to give it to the "middle class", thinks drilling for oil is bad so he proposes doing nothing, wants to create a Marxist state in this country by essentially destroying the constitution, etc., etc., etc.

The other candidate has a REAL record of working with both parties for reform. McCain not only saw the surge would work before anyone else, he also called for reform of Freddie and Fannie years before the current crisis hit.

I think the stupid are the ones falling for the rhetoric and stand-up delivery of Obama. Smart people will look at their records and vote for McCain.

In 2005 John McCain co-sponsored the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 which called for increased oversight of Fannie and Freddie but Dodd and others killed that idea. McCain''s Address on the floor of the Senate reveals his foresight concerning the looming crisis, saying:

"If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole."

Change Is Coming. Change Is Coming. And you''d better get used to it because This Change is certainly Change You Can Believe In.

Complete Republican failure?

What failure? Iraq? Nah, we''re winning there thanks to Bush''s strength of cahracter and despite the Dem''s zealousness to surrender.

Eduacation? Nah, the NCLB Act has improved the educational scores of children all over the country including in many previously failing school districts.

You''ll say the economy, right? Sure, let''s look at the economy and who is really at fault. First, the informed person knows that congress controls the purse strings, that''s the group of people who have done absolutely nothing the last two years since the Dems took over.

The problems with the economy come down to two areas, gas/fuel prices and the credit problems. Both created by Dems.

Here is my prediction, if Obama wins, 75% of the dummies who vote for him now will deny they voted for him in 4 years, just like Jimmy Carter.

If you ask me, do you want 4 more years of Bush or 4 more years of Jimmy Carter, I''ll pick Bush every time and so would any other objective person.

And you will regret when Obama gets in and does NOTHING. He will do NOTHING. His advisors will rule the White House, just like you accuse Bush. McCain is his own man. Obama likes to vote Present and let other people take the fall. He takes graft from Fannie/Freddie. Jim Johnson! For goodness sakes, if McCain had him on his side, you''d be all over it! Stop looking at McCain all the time and look at the guy you SUPPORT! I don''t expect you to care about William Ayers because I''m sure you admire him, but how can you claim to like Jim Johnson?? lsageinaz - I expect your kind of response. It is a tittering behind a tree, designed to defuse any serious message. Gone are the days of William F. Buckley, David Susskind, and true scholars who would disembowel Obama analytically. Today, we are treated to the likes of Olbermann, Maddow, Larry King, Wolf Blitzer, Charlie Rose. And the hallucinations persist not in me, but in the youth of today, blind with rage against an administration, which is natural, but also against anyone from a party, which is not natural or pure. The Democrats (as the Republicans) have all sorts of responsibility for the economic mess we''re in. However, whereas Republicans will share the blame, the Democrats do not seem willing. Nowhere does Chris Dodd take any blame for his role in the housing crisis, yet he is in control of the committee and is first in line for handouts from the industry. Obama was second in line in his short stay there. No one complains that Obama took the money, took the house from Rezko, now a felon in jail. No one cares that he claims to have started legislation for reform (which is false) and htat he claims McCain did nothing (FALSE- look in 2003 and 2005 - CHECK THE FACTS!). I wish your rage could dissipate for the short time it would take to seek facts and make a disciplined decision.

More delusions. Obama in a landslide? More like a mudslide the way the Obama people are slinging it. Listen, we all know this is the only way Obama wins. They must throw mud to obfuscate the facts. Obama is a liar, a flopper, a race-baiter (both white and Latino), a friend of radicals, a part of do-nothing Congress, a product of Chicago politics, a smear merchant, a coward, an elitist.

McCain, on the other hand, is a war hero, a maverick against his own party, a reformer, a respected part of Congress. You can smear about his infidelity, or his choice of Palin over Lieberman, or his supposed record of voting with Bush (it''s more like 74%), etc. But that''s really all you have. In essence, McCain represents MORE CHANGE than Obama. Case closed.

(1) He will give free money to the poor. Except.. we don''t HAVE any money to give away! And Congress has to APPROVE it anyway. They won''t.

(2) He will negotiate around the world and make the US so much more respected. How? By giving in to world leaders? We LEAD, we do not follow.

(3) He will help race relations. HOW?

(4) He will rebuild America''s educational system. HOW?

(5) He will give health care to everyone. What about those of us who don''t want gov''t health?

No more. and, my comments are not "designed", but rather, simply add another point of view. Buckley, Sussskind, scholars? Ok, if you say so. Olberman, Maddow et al. You must watch them for a reason. Hallucinations in youth? Do you inow any young people who are willing to talk to you seriously? Blind with rage? Is that you? Are you listening (really listening?) to anyone other than yourself? Natural and pure? The only thing that comes naturally and purely to Bush, Cheney, and McCain is inability to tell the truth. We all clearly see that Dems and Reps share all sorts of responsibility for the economic mess we''re in. What you didn''t cite is Bush''s inability to LEAD the country out of it. (Oh, excuse mek he thinks the economy is ok). No one complains that Obama took the money... I assume you have some proof of that. Oh, and have you forgotten the Keating 5? Have you forgotten that McCain took money from a convicted felon (Keating)? Drink your own koolaid and go check the facts. One thing you said that IS true. I can''t believe this cracker drivel. The economy has just tanked to the brink of another great depression. You know it''s bad when free market Republicans are clamoring for a bailout. Oddly, Bush has figured this out, but McCain is taking the Herbert Hoover approach. If the neoconservatives didn''t remove all the regulations that prevented the shadow banking system, we wouldn''t be in this mess. Free markets are great for allocating resources, but only when there are adequate resources. The neocons think that markets work for everything. Well duh! I guess they don''t.

Tommyzax....

All the questions you have about Obama''s plans, all the details, can be found on his website. Read it and get the facts for yourself.

1) Where has he said he will give free money to the poor? Are you talking about welfare? Neither candidate is talking about *cutting* welfare, so clearly both are still interested in having it exist (though the republicans are generally more supportive of corporate welfare, which is somehow more palatable to neocons). If you are talking about the tax burden...personally, I''m ok with the poor and the middle class having their taxes lowered. That''s just me.

2)Every situation with every leader will be different. Is your definition of "leading" throwing our weight around militarily? The US''s reputation abroad (which directly impacts trade, lending, cooperation on international projects, etc.) has been decimated. Saying that one will meet with world leaders and see that we can work with them is a good thing. Remember Nixon meeting with the Chinese...? That was a *good* thing.

3) Race relations: People have symbolic power. He himself has never claimed that his presence alone will rebuild race relations (find me a quote of him saying so if I''m wrong) But there are those who think it might help with perceived inequality. Or not. It isn''t really a platform issue anyway.

4) You can read all about his educational plan on the website. Take a few minutes.

5) You obviously haven''t read his health plan. Take a few minutes and do that too. Educate yourself.

tommyzax:

1. First of all, he''s not really talking about giving money to the poor. He''s talking about not spending countless billions on a war in a country where we don''t belong. And he''s going to use *that* money to give tax cuts to the middle class.

2. Obama has an 80% approval rating around the world world. McCain does not, and has something like a 45% approval rating. If the US is going to continue to lead world affairs, we need to get somebody like Obama in charge and restore the American name brand. Otherwise, India, China, Russia, and the EU are going to cut America out of the loop eventually.

3. He''s not a conservative white-male, and he grew up being a minority. He understands civil rights and minority concerns. You wouldn''t understand this because of white male privilege. I recommend traveling outside of the US someday and learning about the rest of the world someday, by the way.

4. Educational system isn''t really one of his major campaign points, but at least he listens to evidence and science, and not some book written by desert tribal nomads 2000 years ago.

5. He''s never claimed he''s going to give health care to eveyrone. He''s said he''s going to make it affordable to everyone.

Read his economic plan and education yourself:

After almost 40 years of Republicrook borrow-and-spend deficit busting, starting with Nixon and only briefly alleviated by Carter and Clinton, everyone is surprised that the economy is tanking and Wall Street is melting.

This mess was purposely engineered by Republicrooks including John McLiar. Bush said "deficits don''t matter" and McLiar agreed. His chief economic advisor said our economic problems are imaginary and that we''re a nation of whiners.

They said "government is the problem" and now they cry for big government to rescue the millionaire CEOs on Wall Street and do nothing for the rest of us on Main Street.

Voting Republicrook is a mental disorder. Anyone who does it needs a checkup from the neck up.

A War Criminal - "Bombed innocent women and children" by his own admission during a 1997 "60 Minutes" episode.

Crashed Three Planes - Do you want him to crash America also?

"Doesn''t understand the economy" by his own admission. Thinks the economy has sound fundamentals.

Flip-Flopper

And you are looking at the issues this guy is presenting???

What about his character???

His judgement. His past actions.

My God you conservatives are so blind to all of this.

If he was my daughters husband I would seriously be worried for my daughter. I wouldn''''t let my kids hang with someone like him.

Gambler, civilian murderer, divorcee.

You want this kind of guy in charge of our country? You should all be ashamed. You want to gamble away our country on a maverick with a temper who will bomb innocent civilians.

This is not someone I want my kids to look up to. If his name was Cain, as it is, but he was olive skinned, would you still be voting for him???

I don''t think so.

Wake up people and smell the manure.

It''''s not the issues, it''''s the man. He''s lost his marbles, will say anything to be president, and is a reckless maverick who does whatever other people tell him to do. Including bombing innocent civilians.

McCain is not the man to be president.

This has become a joke.

It makes me sad that the headline to this is completely misleading. Your article specifically states Obama''s quote, "If we win Florida, it is almost impossible for John McCain to win."

Your headline obstucts the truth, evidently to attract readers eyes. Obama did not say if win Florida, we win the election, he was only mentioning that it would be a lot more difficult for McCain. This headline suggests Obama as over-confident, but his quote suggests a more accurate reading of his character.

Bad form, CBS News. Stay straight-forward and quit stretching things out to try to gain readers. I think respect as a news organization should be more important.
