Obama Raised $66M In August

Barack Obama’s campaign hauled in $66 million in August, CBS News has learned, his best fund-raising month ever. While the campaign would not say how much money the campaign had on had as of the end of the month, those figures will be available when the finance reports are due on September 20.

John McCain’s campaign earlier reported having raised $47 million in August but because the Republican is accepting federal funding for the general election, the campaign had to donate any remaining money to state and local party organizations as of the first of the month. McCain received about $85 million for the fall campaign when he accepted the GOP nomination. Obama, who is bypassing the federal system, can raise and spend a nearly unlimited amount.

But Republicans expect to remain competitive overall, party because of their national committee. The RNC held a $50 million edge over its Democratic counterpart at the end of July. And, Obama’s decision to rely on his own money network means his campaign will have to devote precious time to fundraising as the election surges through the final weeks.

The McCain campaign is whining that Obama is picking on the POW. The POW cannot use a keyboard due to his injuries. If the POW were ACTUALLY interested in using modern technology, he would have a voice controlled computer. They are on the market and work just fine. The conservative push back on this misses the point. McCain is IGNORANT of technology. He doesnt have to use the keyboard to use a computer, but he is such an old fogey on technology, he doesnt even bother to find that out. BOO!! I am a POW, so dont expect me to actually function like a real person.
I am a POW, I dont have to answer for any real weaknesses. I just hide behind my title: POW.
I cannot bring the USA into technology because I have not got a clue about anything since the buggywhip.

All of Obama''s money is coming from the Middle East. They are desperate for a Muslim U.S. president.

Obama''s record fund raising from record numbers of contributors show who''s going to win this election, despite the desperation play McCain made with the Palin appointment.

It will be a great day when we take America back from the U.S. Fascist Party.

First, I don''t think that we are the desperate Party. However, I do sense a sense of urgency on our Party. The GOP has stood on nothing but lies, distrations, and smoke screens. Those things have a short-shelf life. I think it is desperation when your candidate pulls even in the early polls and you guys are running around talking about the election is over. That looks more like desperation (say it over and over again and hopefully it will be true). Plus, you still have to worry about the old Empty Suit and the Empty Skirt (but pretty she it) having to perform in the debates...Whole lot of time to have to prompt up emptiness. I think Obama is going to win and I believe it will not be as close as they are saying it will be. See you on the 5th of November. :)

Sorry, but you have to question where this money is coming from!

If the democraps have any credibility at all, then the people of this country do not have the money to throw away on some losers campaign!

It is so incredibility stupid that people can''t see this.

SO WHERE IS HIS MONEY COMING FROM?

Can''t possibly be from the PEOPLE of the US! I''d be willing to bet it''s from corrupt Muslim bundlers including foreigners, corporate bundlers, and lobbyists, NOT the American people!

"obami supporters are desperate ... now they are trying to buy the election since they know their candidate can''''''''t win it!!! "Lies, myths, and deceptive ads are manifestations of desperation. If a candidate is confident of a win, he/she can stick with issues and just wear down the opponent. On balance, McCain is the desperate old man who lies-he can''t stand the thought of losing the ''big one'' in the twilight of his years. He is as mean as they come. But, everything that goes around, comes around.

"I''''d be willing to bet it''''s from corrupt Muslim bundlers including foreigners, corporate bundlers, and lobbyists, NOT the American people! " You''ve lost the bet! You won''t see a lot of Republican or Republican leaning voters here because voting against a Republican candidate involves swallowing a bitter pill. They''re quiet, but will be pulling the Obama lever on election day. That combined with the votes Bob Barr pulls from the Libertarian wing of the Republican party will put McCain back on the sidelines.

Winslow/sexist:

It''s sad that you two are so scared by Obama and his fund-raising ability that you have to post multiple blogs full of lies and innuendos. Anyone with half a brain knows that the claim that Obama is a Muslim is an outrageous lie. Desperation is not becoming. If you''re really commited to your candidate, you should be out knocking on doors to get your candidate elected, rather than preaching to the choir on-line.

Yesterday, the *Army Times* noted that McCain had criticized Obama for taking the same position *McCain himself held*:.

On Sept. 8, McCain told a rally in Lee''s Summit, Mo., about an Obama video message to a liberal advocacy group.
"[in the video] he promised them he would, quote, ''slow our development of Future Combat Systems,''" McCain said, according to wire reports. "This is not a time to slow our development of Future Combat Systems."
In July, however, McCain''s economic plan declared that "there are lots of procurements -- Airborne Laser, [C-17] Globemaster, *Future Combat System* [sic] -- that should be ended and the entire Pentagon budget should be scrubbed."
In fact, McCain has long criticized the over-budget, behind-schedule FCS program. In 2005, he blasted the Army for allowing the program to balloon to $161 billion, and forced the service to rewrite the main FCS contract.

Loren Thompson of the Lexington Institute told the Army Times, "Future Combat Systems is the centerpiece of Army modernization. However, McCain has been more critical of it than anyone else in the chamber. Obama has been much more detailed and thoughtful in his comments about future military investment than McCain''s very superficial statements."

The Army Times asked the McCain campaign to explain the discrepancy. The campaign "did not return phone calls and emails requesting clarification."

"Well I am proud to be an American and I will not vote for this 1/2 black 1/2 American."........I''m proud too, a traditional white conservative from the midwest, veteran, pro-life(I''m serious). I don''t get rattled over the polls one way or the other, it''s way too early. The USA/Gallup poll a week or so ago with the big spread was an anamoly because its sampling method was different than the other polls. Pull it out and McCain has a healthy 46.0 average lead over Obama''s paltry 45.6. What concerns me is 70% of Americans, on average, say the country is going in the wrong direction; 47% of voters want a Dem Congress vs 41% Rep. If McCain gets in, he''s lame duck before the inauguration! I''m voting for Obama. HOOAAH!

Unemployment at a 5 year high, foreclosures at record levels-not to mention gas and fuel prices as well. Vote the ISSUES and McCain doesn''t have a prayer. He''ll need every penny of this to cover all of his attack ads. Wonder how all of his donors are going to feel when they wake up the day after the election to realize that they''ve been taken? The McCain haul doesn''t include the up to $84M he''ll be taking in as part of the public funding he opted for. Not to worry kids, a lot more will happen between now and the election. The Dem party has now blocked my email address and is returning my replies to their email blast messages where I succinctly and factually challenge their lies. As a Dem, I''m proud I''ll be voting for the McCain-Palin ticket. It''s not more of the same. The Obama change is something I don''t want to have to live with; more government, bigger government, more handouts to slackards, etc.

All this talk about change change ... Obama is not change .. he''s for himself.

The more money we give ... still the same results ... we''re being taken for fools democrates ... at the end of the day ... it will be his and not ours.
Will he give back to the people who supported him if he loses or win????

No ..... into his pocket it will go and than more money he will take from us if he gets elected as president compared to what the Mccain''s are spending on the trail ... with less and it still works to get back at him!
We are going to suffer at the end of the day ... with bigger spending from him with less results for goverment improvments if he gets elected ... this is just one example of his record on how he budgets before he gets elected even into office??????

He really lacks the Experience/Management on this ticket man if he''s handling the money we are donating like this ... I cannot imagine our beloved country United States of America!

Oh my god ... we are so screwed!

*** I honestly wouldn''t mind Palin becoming president in 2012 as long as we have 4 years of a democrate starting this November. An Obama presidence would take money from the very wealthy and oil companies for the next few years... that will be great for the country... and that will show republicans they owe us 4 years of a democrat after the past horrible 8 years of bush... the republicans have to be accountable for the corruption of bush, they shouldn''t be allowed another presidency right now. Honesty, even if Obama wins this election... I bet Hillary will challenge him for the nominate in 2012. She is 60 years old right now, to run again in 4 years as a 64 year old is probably the best bet. Hillary supporters should vote for Obama in 2008! Hillary will run again in 2012 either way. Anyone is better than Amnesty Mccain for the next 4 years. I can''t stand Amnesty Mccain because he wants to give amnesty to over 20 million illegals, if Palin is totally against amnesty for illegal immigrants, I may vote for her in 4 years, however, because Amnesty Mccain is on the republican ticket, I can NOT vote for that amnesty supporter Juan MCcain!
