Conservative Leaders Unite Behind McCain

Time Magazine is reporting that "about 100 conservative Christian leaders from around the country agreed to unite behind the candidacy of John McCain" at a meeting yesterday in Denver.

The decision appears to be a pragmatic one: Though many conservatives were resistant to McCain's candidacy during the Republican primary, they believe he is closer to their viewpoint on many issues than presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

"Collectively we feel that he will support and advance those moral values that we hold much greater than Obama, who in our view will decimate moral values," Mat Staver, chairman of legal advocacy group Liberty Counsel, told Time.

As the magazine notes, McCain has recently declared positions likely to appeal to conservative Christians, including his support for a gay marriage ban in California and his backing of a Bush administration proposal to allow faith-based organizations that accept federal funding to make employment decisions based on religion.

This is really a pathetic country when we have SOOO many ignorant people who don''t learn and want to keep voting against the people of America and their own best interests. They want $8 gas and endless war to kill their kids.

i''m sorry to see this. i thought perhaps we would see these christian conservatives line up according to their ideals, which mccain does not represent, but instead, they did the typical republican thang: just stick with your party, come hell or high water, despite what is obvious, just blind sheep...........

These types of (so-called) Christian Leaders are all think-as-thieves when it comes to Corrupt Government, and the Republican Party can have them!

Lord, I am glad they finally made up their mind. Just gives us one more reason to vote for Obama. Just remember, these money grubbers supported Bush. That ought to tell you all you need to know about their good judgment.

I''m glad they are all falling in line. For a while there I thought conservatives were going to be allowed to have their own opinions. But nope, the submissive personalities all line up.
