Katie Couric's Notebook: Keeping Time

Time pieces have come a long way since 5,000 B.C.

Back then, a stick in the ground was a sufficient tool. Those sticks became a bit more sophisticated with the invention of the sundial.

The modern wrist watch wasn't introduced until the late nineteenth century. And now that timekeeper may soon join the others as a curious novelty more decorative than functional.

Many an American news journalist has publicly apologized for their coverage, or lack thereof, of the lead up to the war in Iraq. They lament about how they should asked more questions and been less inclined to just regurgitate the spin pouring from the White House. Well America, the American news media is at it again. Exxon Mobile, BP, Shell and other large "multinational" oil companies are about to get no bid contracts to service the Iraqi oil fields. These are some of the SAME oil companies ousted by Saddam Hussein some 36 years ago. All of this is being reported by International news journalists as being finalized on June 30th and reports of this story on the American news media are suspiciously absent. Why should Americans respect American journalists when they blog about watches in the face of war profiteering? For Americans who care to know the truth, go to news.google.com and search for "Exxon no bid oil contract", without the quotes of course. Be informed about more than wrist watches.
