McCain Unveils Energy Plan, Takes Aim at Obama

(CBS)

From CBS News’ John Bentley:

DALLAS – When John McCain talked about the high price of gas in New York last week, he said he was “angry at the oil companies” for their obscene profits and their failure to invest in alternate forms of energy. But when he speaks in the “oil capital of America,” as he will refer to Houston later today, the blame will be placed on Wall Street traders back in New York City. “We all know that some people on Wall Street are not above gaming the system,” McCain will say, according to excerpts released by the campaign. “While a few reckless speculators are counting their paper profits, most Americans are coming up on the short end – using more and more of their hard-earned paychecks to buy gas for the truck, tractor, or family car.”

McCain will also take aim at Barack Obama for not supporting more oil exploration domestically and opposing nuclear power plants. “So what does Senator Obama support in energy policy?” McCain will ask. “For starters, he supported the energy bill of 2005 – a grab-bag of corporate favors that I opposed. And now he supports new taxes on energy producers. He wants a windfall profits tax on oil, to go along with the new taxes he also plans for coal and natural gas. If the plan sounds familiar, it’s because that was President Jimmy Carter’s big idea too – and a lot of good it did us.”

Obama has also spoken of investing in alternative fuels, and has tried to link McCain’s energy policies to those of President Bush. “I want to invest in millions of green jobs, so that we finally develop renewable energy, end our addiction to oil, bring those gas prices down, and save our planet in the bargain,” Obama said last month. “John McCain will stand with Washington’s tried and failed approaches of the past.”

McCain has also been trying to distance himself from Bush’s energy policies. “The next president must be willing to break with the energy policies not just of the current Administration, but the administrations that preceded it, and lead a great national campaign to achieve energy security for America,” he will say. “I will set forth a strategy to free America once and for all from our strategic dependence on foreign oil.”

Pretty funny that McCain says he cares about the environment, but yesterday said we should lift the moratorium on coastal drilling and Alaska.

Since McCain refused to mention the North Dakota to Montana oil discovery in 1999. This is the largest oil reserve in the entire lower 48 states. There is enough oil to meet the US consumption for 20 years.

Just this year, North Dakota voters approved construction of the first new US refinery since the 1970''s.

McCain refuses to mention that the oil industry ignored drilling here until Bush and the Republicans could no longer cover up for them.

McCain knows all about the oil in North Dakota, but continues to say exactly what the Republican''s slick oil companies executives tell him to say.

The Republican OIL Party has been dragging their feet on opening operations on many already approved and permitted drilling sites. Bottle Necking our fuel supply is a prime example of the Conservative %u201CFree to manipulate Market%u201D. The Government needs to step in and regulate Energy Companies, and promote alternate generation to enable the real free market to replace our dependency of Republican Oil.

The Price of Gasolina in Mexico is still at about $2.00 per Gallon. Why is that?
Soon, you may see Illegal Aliens standing on street corners selling%u2026.gasoline?

Vote McCain.

He is the only candidate that is old enough to remember who Jimmy Carter was.

Gas has been going up ten cents per gallon every week. That means that the 30 cents a gallon "tax holiday" promoted by McCain would be negated in three weeks. There are no quick, short term solutions to the energy problem and McCain is failing to acknowledge that. He is either ignorant, or pandering to the ignorant in out country.

Yet another populist message to the incompetent by bushie V3.0, right up there with %u2018gas tax holiday%u2019.

His %u2018enormous reserves%u2019 are just enormous profits for the pullers of his puppet strings.

21 billion barrels divided by the 20 million we consume daily works out to...2.8 years of consumption at present rates.

John McCain is seeking the presidency the same way his buddie bushie did...by securing the incompetent vote.

As for powering 18-wheelers...the fuel saved by moving private ground transportation (automobiles) to electrics would reduce demand and thus costs for petroleum users, such as truckers and airlines.
