Nader Shows Strength In Poll

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Friday shows Barack Obama leading John McCain 49 percent to 46 percent among registered voters in a head-to-head match up – with the three point difference within the poll's margin of error.

But consider the results when two other candidates are added to the mix: When pollsters asked not just about Obama and McCain but also Libertarian party candidate Bob Barr and independent Ralph Nader, Obama led 47 percent to 43 percent, with Barr taking two percent and Nader taking six percent. Nader only took 1 percent of the vote in his last run for president in 2004.

Both Barr and Nader are potential spoilers for the major party candidates. Last week, as the Boston Globe reports, Nader, who is to the left of Barack Obama, sent out a fundraising appeal approvingly quoting novelist Russell Banks' comments about the presumptive Democratic nominee.

"Obama is feeding a dream -- a dream of change and renewal," Banks said. "He's feeding a dream that the conditions that surround us -- Iraq, the economy, the racial divide, the class divide in this country -- that they are magically going to go away by voting for this centrist Democrat."

"The Obama moment is a feel good moment," Banks added. "It makes us feel good. But the programs Obama is proposing -- up and down and all around -- are the same centrist Democratic positions. The same people are going to be running the show. All of the corporations are rapidly switching their contributions to the Democrats."

The fundraising appeal, after citing this comments, noted that "what wasn't mentioned was Nader/Gonzalez."

"So, let us say it loud and clear," continued the appeal. "Nader/Gonzalez. Shift the power from the few to the many. Free our government of corporate domination. Restore the sovereignty of an engaged people. Don't fall for the trick."

If you were to vote for another Republican Presidential Candidate such as John McCain who will carry forward the same (and, possibly worse?) Conservative Polices. You will be voting for higher fuel and energy costs, along with fewer jobs, and higher costs of everything else that needs to be transported.

The Republican Party doesn%u2019t care what Americans think of the results of their policies, they believe that Americans will continue to vote against their own better interests because of some old preacher, or lapel pins, TERRI SCHIAVO, or something else that has no relation to the real issues they attempt to promote.

If you choose to not vote for either of the two major party candidates, please consider
THINKING about what is in your own personal better interest before you cast your vote.

Thank you Mr. Nader and Mr. Gonzales!

Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney, Ron Paul...so many qualified candidates to choose from this year.

I am looking forward to debates that include all of these voices.

I hope Nader does take part in the debates so he can be exposed as the mindless troll he is.

I''m waiting to hear his solutions and I fully expect to continue waiting. He''s all rhetoric and no practical problem solving.

Nader''s platform:

- Adopt single payer national health insurance

- Cut the huge, bloated, wasteful military budget

- No to nuclear power, solar energy first

- Aggressive crackdown on corporate crime and corporate welfare

- Open up the Presidential debates

- Adopt a carbon pollution tax

- Reverse U.S. policy in the Middle East

- Impeach Bush/Cheney

- Repeal the Taft-Hartley anti-union law

- Adopt a Wall Street securities speculation tax

- Put an end to ballot access obstructionism

- Work to end corporate personhood

More than any other single factor, people who voted for Nader (or should that be ''Nadir''?) in 2000 to "make a statement" are responsible for giving us the Bush near-dictatorship. In their absence, nothing else - the Florida fiasco, pre-programmed voting machines, whatever - would have prevented the country from electing President Gore*.

Add the Naderites to the short-focus Clinton supporters who claim they''ll switch to McCain as some kind of nutty "revenge" against the shabby treatment she received, and Bush Part 3 is a done deal.

Memo to both groups of spoiled petulants: politics is about compromise and achievability, not purity. Get over it!!

(*) Does anyone else remember than Al got almost 600,000 more votes but still "lost" ???

Gore was elected, and the Democrats were too flaccid to claim their win.

It''s funny how the Democrats claim that Bush stole the election when it suits their needs, but blame Nader for their own failures, cowardice, complicity, and incompetence, when this narrative suits their needs.

This goes to demonstrate the dishonesty and moral bankruptcy of the Democrat party.

The Democrats actively helped to deliver us the War of Terror, the PATRIOT Act, NAFTA, the Military Commissions Act, and on, and on, and on.

With the Democrats as our "opposition", who needs enemies?

This thread is about Ralph Nader by the way. Their are plenty of threads dedicated to the Corporate/AIPAC-owned candidates.

Dreams come true when you set goals, plan, and work hard. Barack Obama is a personification of The American Dream.

Did Hillary Clinton lie to the world about you "HARD WORKING Americans, White Americans?"

Are you so downtrodden that you no longer dare to dream? Or are you so LAZY that you prefer to remain oppressed, that you prefer to complain about the current Administration instead of WORKING for improvements within a new one?

After eight years of fiscal irresponsibility and corruption, the next President of the United States, whoever it may be, MUST raise taxes and must cut spending. Anyone who says they will not, IS LYING.

Otherwise, our "free" country may become a Communist Territory or a Communist Colony.

Our largest creditor since the year 2000, the year Bush/Cheney took office: The Communist Party of China.

MidLifer HOW''S ABOUT YOU JUST allow the effing government to tax you...you seem to WANT IT BAD...TAXES do not have to be raised...what we need is Congressmen and women who will treat that tax money as if it were their own then they wouldn''t be so free in taking from us to give to the people who do not deserve it. CONGRESS is the new Robinhood.

Like a locust, Ralph Nadar pops his head out of the dirt every four years to get his moment of fame.

He no longer cares about issues, he only feels this overwhelming need to stroke his hyper-sized ego.

And some people will follow along. He knows that and that''s what keeps him going.

I imagine if a pinapple declared a run for the Presidency, it would get 6 percent of the vote too!

CarlyLaine, I agree with your remark wholeheartedly:

"what we need is Congressmen and women who will treat that tax money as if it were their own then they wouldn''''t be so free in taking from us to give to the people who do not deserve it."

The Bush/Cheney Administration depleted our reserves to fund an illegal war. Why? Why would already wealthy people create an unnecessary harmful situation to increase their families'' wealth? Well, this time, oil people weren''t the only benefactors.

Rumsfeld and his cronies are in the pharmaceutical industry. He wanted Afghanistan.

Bush also aided a failing weapons manufacturing industry at the expense of our own domestic industries: Automobiles and alternative fuels.

Cheney''s Haliburton won a "no bid" contract in Iraq BEFORE the war was launched. ???

Yes, they took our money to benefit those who do not deserve it. Even worse, they didn''t NEED it. Themselves.

And they sold us to a Communist nation!

Between the years 2000 and 2007, these United States, once the most properous country, the richest country, the most powerful nation in the world,

has become indebted to Communist China in the TRILLIONS.

Libertarian is the way to go my friends. Ralphie is in it for his own ego but the Libertarian mantra of less government and no unprovoked aggression against others is what this country needs. The war is draining this country of it vitality and needs to end.

Ralph Nader will not win the presidential election. And if he were truly concerned with the state of our Union, he''d work WITH the Democratic Party who purportedly share his beliefs.

His method of running against the Party, only benefits the Republican Party. And right now, The Republican Party is so closely aligned with The Communist Party, it''s scary:

The Republican Party...
Removing personal freedoms
Removing freedom of choice
Decreasing educational benefits
Invasion of privacy
Destroying the economy

The Bush Administration resembles a dictatorship not by coincidence.

Oh, and Mr. Libertarian, you have a former(?) Republican failure as your candidate this year. Nice going.
