McCain Charged With Hypocrisy Over Hamas Comments

Former Clinton State Department official James Rubin says John McCain is a hypocrite.

Rubin interviewed McCain two years ago for Sky News, a British network. At that interview, Rubin writes in today's Washington Post, he asked this of the presumptive GOP nominee: "Do you think that American diplomats should be operating the way they have in the past, working with the Palestinian government if Hamas is now in charge?"

Here, per Rubin's column, is McCain's answer: "They're the government; sooner or later we are going to have to deal with them, one way or another, and I understand why this administration and previous administrations had such antipathy towards Hamas because of their dedication to violence and the things that they not only espouse but practice, so . . . but it's a new reality in the Middle East. I think the lesson is people want security and a decent life and decent future, that they want democracy. Fatah was not giving them that."

McCain now criticizes Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama for his professed willingness to negotiate with so-called "rogue" leaders like Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, suggesting it reflects a "naiveté and inexperience and lack of judgment." In response to Rubin's column noting McCain's apparent willingness to negotiate with the militant Palestinian group, the McCain campaign released this statement, from spokesman Tucker Bounds:

“There should be no confusion, John McCain has always believed that serious engagement would require mandatory conditions and Hamas must change itself fundamentally – renounce violence, abandon its goal of eradicating Israel and accept a two state solution. John McCain’s position is clear and has always been clear, the President of the United States should not unconditionally meet with leaders of Iran, Hamas or Hezbollah. Barack Obama has made his position equally clear, and has pledged to meet unconditionally with Iran’s leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the leaders of other rogue regimes, which shows incredibly dangerous and weak judgment.”

The Rubin column comes on the heals of President Bush's comment, before the Israel Knesset, that "Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along." The president compared people who want to sit down with rogue leaders to those who wanted to engage in talks with Nazis in 1939, citing "the false comfort of appeasement." Though he did not mention Obama or other Democrats by name, the Democratic frontrunner and other Democrats responded to the comments with outrage.

In an interview with CNN quoted by the Associated Press, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Joe Biden, a former Democratic presidential candidate, suggested that the Bush administration is itself engaged in hypocrisy on the issue, having negotiated with leaders in North Korea and Libya.

"This is pure hypocrisy, but the worst part about it is, think how it falls on the ears in capitals of Europe and the rest of the world and Toyko when the president of the United States says under no condition will we talk to anybody like that, and John McCain, the nominee for the Republican Party, who may very well be president of the United States, is saying the same thing," Biden said.

It''s because McCain doesn''t really have any core beliefs on the matter......he''s just pandering on this issue. You know....like democrats do.

How I would LOVE to see some reporter going back to some obscure interview from two years ago to catch all the democrats'' flip-flops. Never will, though.

This is a perfect example of bias in the LAMEstream media!

What''s to be surprised about?? On the Hill, I have heard that John McCann is infamous for 2 things--his temper and hypocracy.

Interviewers and others have seen that when you push him on his so-called budget oversight, staff harangues, religious connections, etc, you will see his true colors.

Don''t worry, it will all come out after we know who the democrat nominee is. McCain has always gotten a free ticket to pass but it''s going to end soon. We will all know who the real McCain is.

Typical of how BO, his surrogates, and his media hold the intelligence of American voters in contempt. The likes of Biden and Rubin muddy up the issue to camouflage BO%u2019s public faux pas in the live CNN/You Tube Debate in July. In that debate BO expressly said he would meet the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS during the first year of his presidency. (Of course he did not have the benefit of first hearing Hillary''s answer before making his own response.) Yes people like McCain and Gates recognize the reality of international dialogue and indeed such dialogue has been used in the Bush administration. But NOT directly as President and without preconditions as BO so clumsily spoke.

BO and his surrogates could have moved on. They could have taken the high road and used Bush''s recent statement, against appeasement of Hitler types, as a platform for finding common ground. Instead, they chose to play the old victim card--"poor BO is under attack." I guess they never heard the adage: if the shoe fits wear it. By crying out they just proved the point.

Two years ago, in an interview with James Rubin for Sky News, Sen. John McCain expressed a willingness to negotiate with the terrorist group Hamas %u2014 the very group that McCain has been relentlessly using to smear Sen. Barack Obama over the last several weeks.

Rubin has written an op-ed in Friday''s Washington Post about his exchange with McCain, and The Huffington Post has obtained exclusive video

"McCain isn''''''''t a hard core conservative and is NOT another Bush as some people here would have you believe." **** I would argue that he WASN''''T like Bush back in 2000, but since the GOP started dangling the nomination carrot in front of McCain, he SURE is starting to sound a lot like him - conservative activist judge appointees, saber-rattling for a third war in Iran (with Lieberman following him and whispering in his ear everywhere he goes), a cheerleader for the failed foreign policies that brought us Iraq, admittingly no concept of economics except for scams such as repealing the gas tax, making tax cuts for the top 1% permanent, agreement with Bush to not hold talks with Iran, explosive temper, voting to allow torture (the ultimate betrayal of values), warming up to both the neocons and the far right-wing crowd to get their vote, and the list goes on. Every day this guy looks more and more like a "W wannabe". Face it, the guy sold his soul to the neocons. And you thought Kerry was a flip flopper! This guy makes Kerry look like a concrete wall. I won''''t even go into how this guy could never win over the religious right after he called them "agents of intolerance" and demonstrated a lack of "family values" by dumping his wife on her sick bed to take up with some rich hot babe. Nope, more of the same, and most importantly, a vote for McCain is a vote to keep all the neocons and incompetent cronies of the Bush administration employed. You KNOW that was part of the nomination deal.

Ah, and I almost forgot, See McCain waving the American flag and wearing the flag pin while voting to cut benefits for active-duty and veteran soldiers. This guy is just as bad as the other neocons, just more senile. "Maverick" by a$$. The media puppets are such fools to keep embarrassing themselves by referring to McCain this way. Almost as much of a joke as W''''s "compassionate conservative" label, perhaps winner of this decade''''s "most extreme oxymoron" award.

Rubin speaks of hypocrisy. He himself and all of us alike are hypocrits. I have seen many many people throughout the years and have yet to know one single soul, except for little babies who is not a hypocrit. Hypocrisy is just one of our tools in trade when negotiating the obstacles of living. The question is; How much of a hypocrit are we? Do we have this human failing under control or are we lost in an endless domination of self denial?

Rubin is just trying to peddle journalism much like all the other journalist hypocrits.

I hate to bring bad news, but even the messiah, Obama, is a hypocrit.

Two States vs. Federal States of Israel and Palestine

We have had 60 years of experimenting about the Israeli- Palestinian struggle. The region would need help before we will be dragged into a World War III.

No one can reject the fact that creation of Israel on the land of Arabic nations has created tremendous political and economical problems for the United States. One solution would be for Israel joining us as a member of the Unites States%u2019 Common Wealth.

We are already supporting Israel economically, politically and by sharing intelligence and military hardware. In addition, some Israeli Americans with both Israeli and American citizenships serve in the Israeli Armed Forces.

The Common Wealth should include all of the Palestinians.

Would really two nation model for Palestinian and Israeli work in the future? Many experts on the Middle Eastern politics and people would suggest that a two state solution in not viable model. We have struggled with it for nearly 60 years.

Should we be looking at the region as a Federal States with one government elected by all of the people? This model may have a much better chance of survival as a solution for both Israeli and Arabs.

We have been forced into one box by the Israeli Lobby; we need to look outside of this box. We can%u2019t fight wars after wars to support a non-working model of a two state solution.

Negotiating with Arabs or Persions is not an option. Their idea of a negotiation is SURRENDER then have your head lopped on TV.

The reason Arabs and Persion do not simply take Israel by shear dominating force is due to Israel''s "Never Again" policy. That means if Israel is over run by Arabs and Persions one of the largest suicide spectacles in history of mankind would transpire leaving ALL of the Middle East inhabitants incinerated in the twinkling of your eye. For the rest of us Earth loving souls Nuclear Winter would engulf us and we would gradually all die.

Arabs and Persion do not consider this mass suicide an option because their dreams of a Global Calaphate of Islam would never take place.

Hope this obvious reality point adds to your understanding of the NO WIN SENARIO in ISRAEL.

Is it any wonder? McCain has flipped and flopped whenever he thinks that it would benefit him. Furthermore, he is old and forgetful and is often confused. People should realize that when he often apologizes for having mispoken. Not the case, my friend! Not when you confuse the various groups, terrorists and others. Not when you said that Hamas can be the leader because Fatah could not receive the support they needed, and now you denounce others for saying we should talk to them. Come on John my friend, just admit that you are just too old for the job and keep on forgetting what you have previously said. Remember the 100 years on tape? Yes, you said it, and this is why you should never lead this country for none of us can afford to have forgetful John keep us in a war for eternity.

McCain is driving the Flip Flop express down the Hypocrisy track!

The U.S. military currently pays about $300 a month to each of the 90,000 Sons of Iraq security personnel, but officials say they hope the Iraqi government will take over the contracts by the end of the year. The original plan was for the overwhelmingly Sunni Sons of Iraq to be incorporated into the Iraqi Security Forces, but the Shiite-majority government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has resisted hiring them.

More recently, the U.S. command has said that only about 20,000 should be added to the security forces %u2014 nearly all of them in Sunni-dominated Anbar province.

Sen McCain supports the Surge in Iraq, including the payment to the Sons of Iraq(Sunni Terrorists who killed US Soldiers)sort oy paying the terrorists not to fight against the US.

Sen McCain is lying, hypocritacal Appeaser. for supporting the monthly payments of over $30 million to terrorists.

Don%u2019t talk to terrorists, just pay them! Is McCain and Bush%u2019s foreign policy claim to fame!

Obama and Wright have involvement with the ISM.

If Barack Obama didn%u2019t know about Abunimah%u2019s writings (and Abunimah says he did), the same as his claims of being unaware of Reverend Wright%u2019s remarks after 20 years, then Obama is not competent to be our President. Abunimah likes to lie and claim Al Awda has nothing to do with the ISM or Electronic Intifada, though plenty of evidence exists on the website the homepage at www.StoptheISM.com showing the contrary.

But Obama%u2019s association with the ISM through his church and lobbying in Chicago goes even deeper than just his past links to Al Awda and Ali Abunimah. His pastor, Jeremiah Wright, and the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, are both equally involved with the ISM.

The question is if we want a man in the White House who will regularly give his ear to the likes of a Reverend Wright, his and Sabeel%u2019s replacement theologies, and pro-terrorist propagandists like Ali Abunimah on a regular basis? In one sense, Obama could be considered the ISM%u2019s Manchurian candidate given his wide connections to ISM activists and campaign movements such as the Wheels of Justice Tour, Joseph Carr a.k.a. Have a question though - What do you think those Iraqi Sunnis would do if Petraeus didn''t give them the old Greenback?

And if the Petraeus appeasement is working when will the Iraqi Sunnis be merged with the Iraqi Security Forces ?
