Obama Camp Blasts McCain on Economy

From CBS News’ Michelle Levi:

EUGENE, ORE. – Saying “the Republicans are intent on making this campaign about me,” Barack Obama listed several points he believes he has been unfairly criticized about. “Whether I wear a flag pin or you know, my bowling score, my eating habits or the offensive remarks of a former pastor, that's what they want to make this campaign about.” Obama says the election should be about issues and not personalities. “When you insist we stay on issues, politics follow,” Obama said. “Change does not happen from the top down.”

But Obama’s surrogates aren’t afraid to dredge up the past to criticize his Republican rival, John McCain. “It is it is not the Straight Talk Express, it is the Trojan Horse express,” said Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., who introduced Obama. He described McCain’s public policy as “reckless” and identical to that of President Bush. “John McCain doesn't know anything about the economy,” Defazio continued. “He says we need less regulation. Hello! Wall Street mortgage meltdown, Bear Stearns taxpayer bailout, Enron, but, you know, I guess maybe for a guy who was up to his neck in the Keating Five and savings and loan scandal, less regulation is better.”

The McCain campaign said DeFazio's comments reflected poorly on Obama. "Peter Defazio's unhinged rhetoric and reckless disregard for the facts shows Barack Obama can’t stand up for his own standard of new politics, which means it isn't likely that he's going to stand up for much else either," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

Obama went on to explain to a crowd of supporters at a rally here why he is the ultimate unifier. “I just want to point out that this campaign has been about unity from the start and today we had the new coach of the Oregon State University Beavers introduce me, and the coach of Oregon University,” Obama said. “That’s a sign of being able to bring anybody together in this country – the Ducks and the Beavers.” He was rewarded an Obama basketball jersey from the Beavers, which should not be hard to come by for him, since his brother-in-law is the head coach of Oregon State.

Earlier in the day, Obama decided he “should stick to political races” while stopping by Oregon’s Twilight Track Meet. The senator walked a lap around the track, shaking hands, throwing university t-shirts and congratulating runners. He stepped over a hurdle as the announcer said he would mark Obama as a “did not finish.” At one point a toddler was handed to him and he said "you look like a track star.” There was some confusion returning the child to his mother, and Obama had to point out "that's your mama, I'm Obama."

Anyone wanting information on Senator Obama''s policy should got to his website and look under issues.

McCain has lost is ethical bearings by suggesting Senator Obama is somehow linked to Hamas.
McCain said he would run a clean campaign but he continues with the same old tired politics of innuendo, preying on hate by creating fear.

Betting against the intelligence of the American people is a losing gamble this year.

The gas tax pander is a perfect example.

My vote is for Obama.

Eye-Popping Survey By ccAdvertising

It appears that Barack Obama%u2019s self-inflicted negative publicity is having an effect on his chances at the Presidency. He may be doing strong in the Democrat Party, but the following survey shows he is not doing so well with the electorate at large.

From May 1, 2008 through May 5, 2008, ccAdvertising completed a survey to a combined total of 90,000 homes in California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania (10,000 homes from each state) extracted from the ccAdvertising database.

This survey compared John McCain, the presumptive Republican Nominee for President against Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the final contestants in the race for the Democrat nomination for President. Combined results from respondents to this survey show:

John McCain Versus Hillary Clinton:

John McCain = 40.98%
Hillary Clinton = 42.04%
No Preference = 16.98%

John McCain Versus Barack Obama:

John McCain = 45.90%
Barack Obama = 40.42%
No Preference = 13.68%

The Bush Republicans need a John McCain Presidency to cover up, smooth over, and sweep all the corruption under the carpet!

Americans need to hold the Republican Party accountable.

The U.S. must be in great economic shape if its citizens can throw away $200,000,000 on Hillary.

Hillary Clinton has raised more then $198 million dollars for her campaign and yet is $25 million in debt.

This goes to show why she is unfit to be President.
$25 million in debt and she claims to have passed the Steward of the Economy test.

But Hillary made LOANS to her campaign and now she will want that money repaid so all you Hillary Supporters like RowdyTexan, you better increase your donations to Hillarys campaign (or should it now be called the Hillary Loan Repayment Fund)

But please remember Hillary will get ALL her money back, because its a LOAN; you however will only have your memories and a smaller bank balance.

Hillary relies on suckers like you to GIVE your money, while she cleverly LOANS hers.

When this is over she will have a bath in 100 dollar bills because all her 110 million dollar fortune is still there ! But don%u2019t worry she will be thinking of you and your kind donations !

To hopeful08:
I thought it took a majority of the senate and house and pres to pass legislation.
800+ bills in Illinois; I know people who got more bills than that at a casino.
Partial passage? Does that require a laxative to fix?

sjc_1 brings up the point of Obama''s "interesting" words. Surely the writer meant to write "inspiring" words. I haven''t witnessed anything like Obama''s inspirational and unifying messages in my lifetime. I am putting my faith in Obama to lead the country in a better direction. He has my vote all the way....and I am OLD.

Here are the facts.
1. Obama gave up several high paying jobs after graduating Magna-Cu*-Laude to fight for blue-collar folks, for $12K per year.
2. Obama 12 year elected record clearly shows who he is --
** 800+ bills from 8 years in the Illinois senate. Barrack is the ONLY candidate to pass Healthcare reform.

From the US Senate --
**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.
** Honest Leadership and Open Govt. Act (became law)
** Sponsorship with John McCain (R-AZ) of a climate change bill to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by two-thirds by 2050
** joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism (partial passage)

3. "Of all the leading candidates, he [Obama] is the only one on these issues who has consistently acted like a true American" says Naomi Wolf, the author of The End of America and the co-founder of the American Freedom Campaign.

You''re right. Who is McCain? A guy who graduated close to the bottom of his class in college, dumped his first wife for a younger, prettier richer one. Has been at the heart of several scandals, even recently, intends to carry on the failed Bush policies, announces his intent to pack the SCOTUS with right leaners, jokes about his intent to bomb Iran, stay in Iraq for a hundred years... That''s enough to avoid voting for ol John for most voters. He would be everyone''s worst nightmare.

All you need to know about Mr. "I don''t know much about the economy" is that his advisors are the author of Dow 3,000 and the man who is more responsible than any other Senator for deregulating the banking industry that has left us with our current crisis.
