Obama Takes On Both Clinton and McCain

(CBS)

From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Pulling no punches on his first day back on the campaign trail after his vacation, Barack Obama attacked John McCain’s economic plan and Hillary Clinton’s reluctance to give up power.

“This has been a hard fought contest and the status quo is not going to give up easily,” Obama said. “Not just the Republican status quo but the Democratic status quo. People have been in power a long time and are used to being in power. They don’t like change. They are going to resist it.”

The Obama campaign has repeatedly said that they will not call for Clinton to drop out of the race and that the decision would be hers. Obama called Clinton “smart and capable,” and said he wants to ensure that the tone of the campaign will help a Democrat become elected in November. But he then went on to accuse Clinton of taking large sums of money from lobbyists. “When she takes more money from lobbyists and special interests than any candidate including John McCain that shows that she doesn’t have a sense that we have got to change how business is done in Washington.”

Obama also fiercely criticized John McCain’s economic policy, accusing him of not presenting solutions to the current crisis and just wanting to “sit back” and watch what happens. “In his entire speech yesterday he offered not one policy, not one idea, not one bit of relief for the nearly thirty five thousand North Carolinians who were forced to foreclose on their dream in the last few months,” Obama said. “Not one single idea or a single policy prescription.”

Although he was not asked about Rev. Jeremiah Wright specifically, Obama spoke of his former pastor and the Trinity United Church of Christ in an answer to a question on religion. He described his church as “welcoming,” but again condemned Wright’s inflammatory comments and said that he hopes voters will not be distracted by the controversy. “We cannot solve the problems of America if every time somebody somewhere says something stupid that everybody gets up in arms, that we forget about the war in Iraq or the economy or we forget about things that are going to make a difference in our children’s lives,” Obama said. “I don't want that kind of politics.”

WRIGHT is not running for presidency.
OBAMA is running for presidency.

WRIGHT said anti-white and anti-american remarks.
WRIGHT is OBAMA''''s adviser and uncle by heart.
WRIGHT''''s ideas reflects OBAMA''''s mind and his wife have the same tone.
OBAMA can not disown WRIGHT.

This is like a white person not disowning KKK.
OBAMA is a closet WRIGHT double.
OBAMA is WRIGHT.

Those people who are attached to the idea that Obama is inferior because he embraces someone who went too far on an idea once or twice - not every single day, are playing right into the hands of those who write this stuff. That''s why it is out there, and that is the reaction you are supposed to have. No good dirt on Obama, so run around and make a story because once or twice, NOT every day, not every Sunday even, but literally once or twice, someone got carried away. If you were ever in a black church, you could see how easily that is to do - getting carried away. that is. Who better to bring the nation together than someone who understands all of these things people are feeling and thinking. It adds to his merit as a human to me. Personally, if someone had a microphone on me all day everyday, it would probably not take long for a huge gaffe to occur - I would not even know it - beyond that, I know people who have said just as stupid things --- the other context is that this spiritual leader is talking about Bush''s America, not the America we are aiming for a perfect union with. The same America that Michael Moore has produced films about - the conspiracy that many Americans are thinking anyway- the radical pastor just said it out loud - ONCE or twice. Not in the endless loop that you are seeing. Please understand you are getting a large dose of something that is miniscule in comparison to the years and years this man has been preaching.

Popstom1- I could possibly consider your comments, however stupid they are, if you could only spell. You should be so luck as to have Barack Obama pulling for you.

Obama is so smart and is so wise that he would be much better of a president than Bush, Clinton, or McCain. We need new leadership in Washington. McCain is too old and too mean and stubborn. Clinton is trying to use Karl Rove tactics and that turns most of us off. Lying about Bosnia was shocking and not at all smart.

can''''t vote for a candidate that calls Rev. Wright his "spiritual leader" and at the same time calls him an endearing "old uncle".

Look, this Rev. Wright is a black national extremist who spews racial bigotry! His words, behavior and affiliations PROVE IT!

Sen. Obama alludes to a "new kind of politics" charging Hillary and McCain as "out of touch..."

Obama is a black wolf in sheep''''s clothing... He is just as much a political opportunist as the rest of them ... with one added feature.

He "still" believes in a man that "spews racial hatred."

Im truly disappointed...

Stop the Drama Vote Obama, Change we can Believe in, Judgment we can Trust. I thank G''d for America and the American people which will prevail in this election. George Bush had to ask us to trust him, and I for one did. He like so many others think they can do this job. Being President is a special job for a special person. Barack Obama is up to the Task of being President of the United States for all her citizens, and a Good Will Ambassador to the good people of the World. He will protect our Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. Obama 08.

Obama talks about the status quo as though he is exempt. Pleeeeeease! In the beginning he has claimed he is not an insider when it is virtually impossible to become a U.S. Senator without being an insider. He may have sprung from humble beginnings, but he is now well situated in the millions of dollars; now to mention the tripling of the family income during the past three years.

The pastor issue speaks of his lack of judgment and is therefore not a distraction. If you listen to 10 economists each one will have a plan and not at all agree with the other person. So one person says the falling dollars helps the US economy from the business view, but harsh on the every day joe, but then a strong dollar while great for the consumer is bad for businesses expecting to export their products. There are no easy answers. The housing problem has had eruptions many times in my lifetime. Each time after the dust settled and yes many were hurt financially the housing market recovered and went right back up. If you were the optimist a falling home prices will allow those that previously could not afford to get into the market to get their first house, or let others move up to their dream house. Those that were speculating in the Fl, CA, NV markets knew there was a risk and like any investor didn''t see the top and so bought too late. It happens. Get over it. The big problem with the economy is that the public wants answers to their woes, and yet the actual answer is that the economy is consumer driven which means people buy more than they need. People today buy like it is a hobby and unfortunately our economy and many others are counting on that. Not Barack, not McCain, not Clinton will have anything but a patch to put on this economy that has a faulty foundation.

The GOP will be HURTING in the next elections!!!!

The GOP/Republican tools on these forums wouldn''t dare talk about Republicans and their failed policies. Instead they help themselves feel better about blind support for the Republicans, by attacking Democrats trying to fan the flames of dissent within the DNC.

Well now I know, a vote for a Republican is literally a vote for ignorance, and misguided spending in an unnecessary war in Iraq, which causes more hate........

Democrats ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

Obama made an amazing speech last week! I have never heard any politician speak so candidly and clearly about ANY topic, much less the state of racism in America.
MAJOR APLAUSE FOR BARRAK OBAMA!!

I like how eloquently Hillary Clinton commented and plugged him for his speech. She knows Barrack summed up the topic of racism so well, that she let it stand as is.

Very graceful of her!

I''d love to see a Republican address this subject in such a direct and intelligent way.
This country has some healing to do and Republicans just GET IN THE WAY.

This election will be historic, and it%u2019s not about Hillary versus Obama, it''s about Democrat versus Republican.

Hillary or Obama, or both. Go Democrats!

Just as a matter of fact, it''s not true that Barack Obama "pulled no punches".

He did not, for example, shout "Shame on you Hillary Clinton." He did not criticize her place of worship. Neither did he mock the content of her stump speech nor her manner of speaking.

He did not point out to Hillary that she seems to be the last one to acknowledge that she has lost this contest, and that her continued sniping serves the Republican cause while it further damages her own reputation.

And speaking of sniping, Barack Obama did not call Hillary a liar for her self-serving fabrications about dodging "sniper-fire" in Boznia, nor for her transparent falsehood that her elaborate deception was the result of "sleep deprivation".

He did pull punches, because he not only believes in bringing a new kind of politics to Washington, he has the temperament and intelligence to pull it off.

More so than I.

Hillary is a liar as you can plainly see from her Bosnia trip. She lied multiple times about the same thing in multiple speeches.

She tries to calm the waters by saying she is human? So all humans lie? Is that what we take from this? She is a witch.

Guys, give it a rest with the "trust" statements and the race-baiting statements. Let''s focus on the issues. McCain has no clue on economic issues and Obama has all the right to call him on this.

If America is not smart enough to vote for Obama, then that is just the way the cookie is going to crumble. I''m smart enough, however I realize that more than half of my fellow countrymen are not even as smart as a fifth grader. So it will either be the corporate GOP candidate or the corporate Democrat that gets to sit in the white house for the next 4 years and plan how best to further wreck our country.
Welcome to the Idiocracy
