Clinton-Obama Ticket? Obama Says No Way

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

COLUMBUS, MISS. -- Barack Obama responded to the Hillary Clinton, who, along with her husband former President Bill Clinton, has floated the idea of a Clinton-Obama ticket - with Obama as the running mate - and accused her of trying to “hoodwink, bamboozle, and okey-doke” voters.

“I've won twice as many states as Senator Clinton. I've won more of the popular vote than Senator Clinton. I have more delegates than Senator Clinton. So I don’t know how somebody who’s in second place is offering the vice presidency to someone who’s in first place,” Obama said to voters here.

After suffering losses in Texas, Ohio, and Rhode Island, the Obama campaign promised to aggressively respond to criticisms from Clinton. Today was the first time that Obama responded to suggestions by Clinton and former President Bill Clinton of a Clinton-Obama ticket, which he took seven minutes to do.

“I do not believe Senator Clinton is about change, because in fact, this kind of gamesmanship — talking about me as vice president, but maybe he’s not ready for commander in chief—that’s exactly the kind of double-speak, double-talk that Washington is very good at.”

Obama noted Bill Clinton’s comments in 1992, when he explained his criteria for a vice president. According to the Obama campaign, Bill Clinton told CBS’s Harry Smith that a vice president must be ready to lead from day one.

“Someone who would be a good president if, God forbid, something happened to me a week after I took office. That's the most important thing,” Bill Clinton said in 1992.

Obama said that this criteria dismisses Clinton’s argument that he does not have the experience to be president.

“I don’t understand if, I’m not ready how is it that you think I should be such a great vice president? Do you understand that?”

Yeah, and what connection does she have with this Spitzer of NY, who is now in the dock on racketeering, and prostitution charges. This makes this Rezko nonsense, the mother of all small potatoes.

Obama''s reply again shows his inexperience.

First, it is quite common that the VP slot is selected from the list of presidential candidates. So, there is nothing unusual about it.

Second, Obama failed to close the deal with all the momentum and the money that he has. His refusal to answer on Rezko, his advisors'' mistakes...that has nothing to do with Clinton...They are Obama''s mistakes - so he should not blame on Clinton.

The fact that Clinton sees the opportunities just shows her experience.

Senator Obama is reeling from losing Ohio by a large margin and narrowly losing Texas. He will lose Pennysylvania as well, leaving this difficult for him to claim he can win the big states. Hillary Clinton is practical, wants to ensure the Democrats will win the Presidency. Senator Obama would pave the way for a McCain victory with his ignorance about who people will want as President if he goes alone against McCain. Hillary/Obama - Both win. She knows it. Senator Obama will hopefully catch on.

Hillary is tried and tested in over 80 countries. As the wife of a visiting US President she was entitled to and negotiated her way through incalculable amounts of complimentary tea and cookies. Come to think of it, this also means that Laura Bush is tried and tested to be President.

Hillary has had numerous experiences of answering the white house phone at 3am but the caller always said CAN I SPEAK TO YOUR HUSBAND PLEASE !!

Obama has no experience in working the levers of government. The man has not held a single ''real'' meeting on the Foreign Services Committee, and saying it''s because he has been campaigning for president is no excuse.
Obama''s economic is to stop the war, then use the money that would pay for the war on a spending package that rebuilds infrastructure. However, there is one small problem with this, that money is being BORROWED. Hillary says lets top the war, roll back the taxes and then we can work towards balancing the budget. Oh, did Obama forget that ''balancing the budget'' thing?
For people that say the press is pro-Clinton, they have not read the real truth about that. Clinton gets less press and far less coverage on real policy issues. Thus she needs to make each and every news story count. Go look it up yourself. I really do hope you will look this up.
Finally, when all is said and done, the red states have been voting Obama (he wins them hands down), and the blue states (especially big states) have been going to Clinton, you cannot win the Presidency without those big blue states. I looked at some possible outcomes for the Presidency, and Obama is not expected to win Florida and New Jersey. What''s with that?!?!? And they hope he will win Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon and Washington states?!?!? I highly doubt he can do that. Obama may be winning states like Alabama in the primary, but he will be guaranteed to loose Alabama in the general election.

Obama should carefully consider the proposition of being Vice PResident. The White House does not have training wheels on it. And that is no place for a junior senator with no real experience to learn how to peddle. We need someone that use to live there and saw how things worked in place to work the levers of governemtn this time. Senator Obama can cut his teeth on being Vice President for a while, then he can try his hand at it. Unless his supporters are too A.D.D. to vote for him when it''s his turn to be President.

As for the posters that continually go off topic and insult the candidates vs. trying to make an intelligent argument, I think it is obvious that they make themselves and Obama look devisive. Obama supporters appear to be doing that more than anyone else. Perhaps that is what the Obama campaign is really about, how to divide the party and win the primary (while loosing the general election to McCain). Time to wake up and realize who is really doing damage to the party here. Taking the Vice President position is what Obama should seriously be considering since he cannot win a single big state in the primary.

A united ticket makes too much sense to ignore.

Clinton (via Bill) brings domestic and international experience. He held office when the House and Senate were Republican and he survived most smear campaigns, so he knows how to wheel and deal in Washington.

Obama brings style, energy and the ability to uplift, plus the younger generations. They are also amassing big political war chests that would be better spent fighting the GOP instead of each other. This is an unbeatable combination.

If they do not merge then they will waste a lot of money, energy and words trying to defeat the other. Their destructive words will come back to haunt them as they will be used by the Republicans in their attack ads.

This merger should work, if Hillary is willing to step aside in 2012, so that Obama does not have to wait for 8 years.

Real good way to alienate all of Hillary''s supporters Obama! Obama will never get my vote now, and I know alot of other Hillary supporters who feel the same. It is nice to see Obama is more interested in his own career than the fate of the Democratic party. Obama is quick to throw the Democrats under the bus and the baby out with the bath water, this is EXACTLY why I don''t support the traitor. Core Democrats should not be supporting Obama a self righteous phony. I am refreshed with the option of voting for Nader if Obama gets the nomination. Nader has a much better agenda than Obama the phony, who split the Democrats in two right from the start in 07 with all of his many attacks on Hillary.

Nice try.
How unfortunate if Obama supporters make Obama look devisive. But not nearly as unfortunate as the country can agree that Hillary Clinton makes herself look divisive and it bears out in how we respond to each other and the posts from her like minded supporters. Even Hillary''s own campaign staff is infected with the corrosive and divisve aura that is Hillary. You will have to understand that People reciprocate in kind and now Obama supporters by and large will do to HRC supporters what those same supporters have been carping about and dishing out since SC.

Not correct. Many of us Independents WILL desert Obama if he gets in bed with Hillary in any way. She''s too dangerous and deceitful to have as a VP and would undermine his Presidency if we were lucky and have an accident waiting for Obama if we are not. We don''t want her--we don''t want to see her and if he gets in bed with her--that is not change that is getting in bed with the status quo, not to mention as the outsiders who can swing the election to the Dems--we really do NOT want to see Bill Clinton''s face in the WH again. No matter how much nostalgia it brings to the dem. core.

Can the Dems win without the Independents and the 70% that support Obama? That is a good question. You do the math.

if Obama becomes her VP should would just use him to get votes, then later, make him the errand boy and butt of jokes in her Administration. Hopefully, Obama is not that stupid. Better never the VP than a buffoonish token.

Obama sounds pretty shrill and small-minded. Didn''t he say " I won''t be running for President if I didn''t think I am ready". Now I don''t really care if Obama thinks he is ready. It is up to the voters to decide. To this voter, he definitely is not ready. Why is he in such a hurry to run for President when he is so ill prepared? He must have something to hide and, of course, there is the clean slate he is trying to hold on so tightly (i.e. no paper trail on his voting record, or lack of).

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick would be a better VP if Hillary gets the nomination.

Deval wrote the original speeches and has good ideas that are his own. He also has some state experience.

Obama would stab Hillary in the back much like Edwards did to Kerry. He would back channel the Republicans or the Canadians if it suited him.

Is Deval black? Because if so, Hilary will not only insult black people but all other Obama supporters. Its the worst kind of racial faux pas. The deal is--try not to see Obama as a black and therefore think his skin color is his winning point. Because if you do--you have reduced a man to a characteristic and THAT will be immediately noticed by blacks and felt like a huge slur (anyone of them will do) instead try to listen to Obama''s message and ideas and try to review his experience. Then try to find another person, of any race and/or gender, and match attributes not skin color--otherwise Hilary will cause a racial divide and commit such a slap in the face, the Democratic party will be even more rent into two.

You can''t replace people of certain skin colors with other people of the same race--unless you see them only as a race and fail to let them just be individuals--just like you are.

If this doesn''t make sense--then think about this: Can Obama simply find a dumpy white woman with short blond hair and some political experience and that will be a reasonable stand in for Hilary.? If not--then think of and treat other people the way you would like to be thought of and treated.

I don''t understand why people think Senator Clinton should quit when obama hasn''t won? She has more votes & delegates if you count Florida & MI. Just because you want something doesn''t mean everyone should step aside so you can have it! He acts like she is in his way and has no business in the race! Just because she is a woman doesn''t mean she has to step aside. You didn''t hear Mccain telling Huckabee get out of the race. Mccain respected his right as an American to run. Obama can''t win on delegates it is mathematically impossible! I don''t see anything wrong with Senator Clinton to say she would be happy to have obama on her ticket. It could still happen I think obama has proven he can''t take a punch & has a glass jaw. His campaign made soo many rookie mistakes. If he is crying because Senator Clinton is picking on him, he better duck for the right wing attack machine. Lets not forget about swift boating Kerry. Everyone was mad @ him & Edwards because they didn''t fight hard enough against the Republican machine. Now people are crying that Senator Clinton is fighting too hard. Make up your minds people! These are better known as sexist double standards. I think she has proven that she will fight & keep getting up. So do you want a President that can''t be honest to the American people about his stance on NAFTA & now the war and his real stance on troop withdrawal, Rezco etc. get real people. We need substance, not speeches from to date it is like 25 different people!!

Hillary should not be running for president, she should be in jail.
She is not fit to run a house, let along a country. Hillary has committed election felonies in the past, yet escaped going to jail via cover ups! The proof is in the pudding. Look at the evidence for yourself. Can someone please tell me what qualifications does Hillary Clinton have? Where did she get all of this so called experience? By being the first lady? I don%u2019t ever recall her running a country. The only thing I know from history that she has experience in, is being a Liar. Has everyone forgotten what Hillary and Bill did to Stan Lee and Peter Paul back in 1999? How soon we forget just how sleazy that are. Well here''s the documentation for those what are interested in knowing the REAL TRUTH about how vicious they can be. Should they be above the law? She is a criminal and she should be behind bars, but I guess she can thank those who helped cover up her dirty deeds that she''s not. Look at the Facts for yourself and refresh your memory. Is this who you really want for president? Someone who will stop at nothing even if it means discrediting innocent people to protect herself? Well I don''t know about you, but I deserve better from a New Commander in Chief.

I think to date now it is 30 military brass. They are of all races, they have respect for her & know her personally! Besides Senator Clinton has more Delagates and popular votes if you go by obama''s original words, which were "Seat the Delagates", until he couldn''t win a big state. But then again in the words of obama/ Deval Patrick WORDS JUST WORDS!!! Half his speeches were from other peoples speeches, even lifted from Denzel Wahington in that movie about Malcolm X. You know where he said "hoodwinked, bamboozled & okiedoked" yeah those were JUST WORDS of Denzel & Malcolm X.

More experience than Hillary? You must be high! He has NEVER met a foriegn head of state! Not even Mexico or Canada! He has never had any forign relations experience at all. He has never had a meeting for the Afghanistan sub committee he chairs for Nato. He has chaired it since Jan. 2007. He has been "TOO BUSY CAMPAIGNING FOR PRESIDENT!! Again his words and can be found on youtube!! I thought he was worried about Afghanistan. You must not have read my other posts. Obamas original words (really his this time) SEAT THE DELEGATES! So no he isn''t ahead. Ask MI. & Florida if he is ahead! Until he couldn''t win a big state then he CHANGED HIS WORDS. Again can be found on youtube!. Obama even hit the wrong voting button 6 times while in the state senate! Those were his WORDS! Maybe he says he pushed the wrong button 6 times just as cover up on how he voted so he doesn''t have to stand by his votes! His WORDS were that he "wasn''t ready for President, I am not experienced enough"!! All I have said can be found on youtube!!! IN HIS WORDS!!!

Frankly, Hillary would make a better running mate for McCain since they both owe lots of favors to big business, vote the same way on Iraq/Iran and have lots of experience in Washington-double-talk.

Obama has finally made it clear that the hope for a new type of politics (that he awakened) cannot be purchased by an old style politician like Hillary for any price, much less a vice-vice presidency behind Bill.
