Katie Couric's Notebook: Gore And Global Warming

Hi everyone.

The last time Al Gore came to Capitol Hill--six years ago--he was there to certify the electoral college results that made George Bush president.

But today it was a triumphant return, this time as a private citizen, to declare that the world faces a "planetary emergency" over climate change. And now, a lot of his skeptics agree that Gore makes a powerful point.

The scientific consensus is clear, and Gore urged Congress to listen to scientists, not special interests. He pushed for an immediate freeze on greenhouse gases, as well as cleaner power plants, more efficient cars, and stronger conservation efforts.

Gore said "a few years from now...the kinds of proposals we're talking about today are going to seem so small compared to the scale of the challenge."

Here's hoping Congress puts partisanship aside, and comes together to act boldly on global warming.

That's a page from my notebook.

Well, Katie's sold on "Global Warming." That's convinced ME that it's real.

What is interesting to note is how quickly the celebrity class of the US has latched onto the "climate crisis". With no consensus, and a lone agenda driven "leader" with no scientific background as its champion, global warming is dead on arrival. Gore doesn't even have the intellectual honesty to modify his own lifestyle to "save the planet". Instead he would force lifestyle modification on the "little people". America is tired of the elitist mentality that heats and cools 15000 Sqft homes, flies in private jets and drive multiple SUVs telling us about how much energy we consume.

"The scientific consensus is clear?" How about the dozens of scientists who have recently written that it's far from being so? How about virtually all of Gore's "Facts" from his "documentary" being proven wrong? But just that fact that the perky Katie decides this is it is enough for me. Let's spend trillions on something we THINK is happening. After all, we've never had these tempartures before...oh wait, we have! So, if we're responsible for the tempartures now, how do they explain the tempartures before? And if we're responsible for Global warming, then we must be impacting the Solar System, because Mars, Venus, and Jupiter are showing signs of it too.

Don't be duped people! FOLLOW THE MONEY AND POWER!

The funny thing is, is that there is not a consensus. I've read numerous articles from scientists from all countries who disagree with many of Mr. Gore's findings and the reasons for global warming. It's interesting that Ms. Couric does not mention these in here "thesis" ere.

No Katie, there is no scientific consensus, although there's a great deal of wishful thinking. Yes, there may be wide agreement that the planet is in a warming cycle, however there is no agreement as to the cause, or its long-or short-term implications, and certainly there%u2019s no consensus as to a meaningful response%u2014individual, local, national, or global. (I'd like Mr. Gore to go to Angola and tell them to shut down their oil production.)

What drives Al Gore? I suspect it's his t Baby-Boomer Narcissism, which makes it impossible for him to accept the one indisputable fact of life: the world is indifferent to his happiness.

Indeed, it seems that people are willingly blinded and will hear only that which they wish to. Katie has an agenda, and obviously is far from an unbiased or a skilled reporter, as she does not report any facts, but rather a prismed display of facts run through her own interpretive mill. Fact is there is no scientific consensus but only one from a politically motivated panel and hundreds of WELL known, highly-respected, and leading scientists in the field of climatology blatantly disagree with it. There have been shows, documentaries to this side but none of this is pushed on networks such as CBS or with anchors such as Katie Couric, who is little better than a Starbucks employee giving the news. Please Katie, start respecting yourself, stop pushing agendas and start reporting the truth. Please CBS take her off the air.

maybe she's right? first, disband these huge mega cities. ny, la, chicago, probally account for most of this countries gw gas output. second, 2 cars per household. limo's? gotta be full to move. and we gotta shot to kill at the border. all these immigrants walk across, then buy big ford pickups or tahoes.
get real kate. ask tough questions! what was the earths temp from 16000 bc to 15000 bc?
atlantic ocean current temp the day columbus landed was what?
and why the hell are all these global warming against war? war destroys all that causes global warming does it not? including the main cause of global warming, people!! which leads me to another point, somewhere, some wacked out scientist is gonna save the world and unleash a really bad virus.blame yourselves.
i've written my senators, if there is a "scientific consensus", why do we need to continue funding research? take away the money and they go back under their rocks.
the problem kate? you don't question anything anymore. your whole nightly broadcast is summed up by visiting two or three liberal or democrat friendly websites.
false prophet gore. they said it was gonna be like this.

that the other planets are warmer, and how there is a large group of scientists who do not believe in global warming. Her page is simplistic
and barron of fact.

I was looking at the picture of Algore at Drudge Site. Look at his eyes and I would have to ask what has he been smoking or whatever? It appears that global warming is a big ado bout nothing or the end of the world. Either way, I expect there will be a lot of money spent, regardless of what is the truth(whatever that is). And Katie, so good of you to join the Algore entourage. Laughable.

Katie, please ignore people like Chris. Those who tell you there is scientific consensus have had their head in the sand and are ideological knuckledraggers. It has nothing to do with politics, it has everything to do with proof as to why global warming is occuring. It's good though that we can all communicate here on Mr. Gore's greatest invention, the internet.

Perhaps I might agree with your and Al Gory's "global warming" pronouncements if you will first explain undersea volcanic activity which is warming the oceans, solar flares, sun spots and the reason the polar ice caps are melting on Mars.

What is even more interesting is how many non-scientists have synthesized proof, yet real scientist have been virtually silenced. The problem with the agenda and those driving it is they are completely devoid of honesty. I would have more respect if they stated "we don't know", or "this might happen", but to be emphatic about events that are about as likely as Al Sharpton becoming president of the United States is simply beyond dishonest.

Again Katie report all the facts. Al Gore did not submit his paper to the Republicans till just before he appeared so they could not prepare to question him, he would not sign a pledge to bring his 20 times the normal American family energy consumption in line with the rest of us. Al Gore is a total fraud, he will not live as he demands others to. He is a snake oil salesman and a false prophet of the church of global warming.Frank in Cameron Park

Chris,
"You've had the bad luck to be linked onto the Drudge Report, which is the sewer of the right wing.".
Possibly correct but unsubstantiated with fact. "These comments merely prove it." Nothing like scientific concensus. "Keep your head high." Sounds reasonable. "These are the lunatic fringe." Hardly. Based on what I have read and researched, as I am sure others have, this just seems like reasonable skepticism about the science as well as the reporting.

I don't think it's your fault, but you just don't have it for the evening news. I don't know how you bail out gracefully, but you should go out on your own terms. You probably can't get out of your contract, unless you give up the 15M/yr. and I guess I wouldn't want to do it that either. It has to be painful though, to see your ratings go through the floor. You are giving it your best, and I guess that's what is important to you. But you just can't pull it off. Sorry, cause I like you as a person. Good luck on your next endeavor, but do it sooner, rather than later.

Let's go with Al Gore's theory that CO2 is the culprit behind Global Warming. Lets also assume, he is right when he says, we are all DOOMED.
Ok, so if we know the cause of this catastrophic problem, and we knew it meant our very survival if we didn%u2019t correct it, wouldn%u2019t we go after the LARGEST OFFENDOR SOURCES of the problem? This seems like the most logical and common sense way to have the largest immediate impact and optimize our chances survival...right? I mean going after the "minor" contributors wouldn%u2019t really save us for very long, especially since we need to keep an acceptable level of CO2 in our atmosphere for life on earth to survive (trees/grass/plant life all require CO2, and emit O2). Hence without CO2 all life dies. Ok so here is the problem, why is Al Gore going after a minor contributor of CO2 to our atmosphere (human sources are amongst the most minor contributors of CO2 to our earths atmosphere!) and at the same time, Al Gore is strangely ignoring the Majority contributors of CO2 (Volcanos, Oceans, Animals)? Here is the OBVIOUS question: Is Al Gore REALLY interested in saving EARTH and the Human Race? He sure has a funny way of showing it. Think people, this FLAW in Al Gores logic, clearly demonstrates this is all a manufactured political power scheme, nothing more. You are his suckers, he expects you to change your lives, and has testified before congress that he refuses to change his own.

Katie,

To you and all you global warming (your new religion).

"ITS THE SUN STUPID"

More sunlight is getting to the surface because there has been a big reduction in airborne ash and aerosols from volcanic activity and the sun's solar activity is at its highest levels in a 1000 years.

Unfortunately Katie you and your liberal buddies can't tax or regulate the sun.

Again here it is in a nutshell you global warming freaks.
