Katie Couric's Notebook: Gore And Global Warming

Hi everyone.

The last time Al Gore came to Capitol Hill--six years ago--he was there to certify the electoral college results that made George Bush president.

But today it was a triumphant return, this time as a private citizen, to declare that the world faces a "planetary emergency" over climate change. And now, a lot of his skeptics agree that Gore makes a powerful point.

The scientific consensus is clear, and Gore urged Congress to listen to scientists, not special interests. He pushed for an immediate freeze on greenhouse gases, as well as cleaner power plants, more efficient cars, and stronger conservation efforts.

Gore said "a few years from now...the kinds of proposals we're talking about today are going to seem so small compared to the scale of the challenge."

Here's hoping Congress puts partisanship aside, and comes together to act boldly on global warming.

That's a page from my notebook.

Do all the name calling you want earthworm. Science does not provide perfect answers. Science doesn't exist without scientists. Scientists provide data and they must determine what the data are telling us (or not). Very often the scientists don't agree on what the data are telling us. So my point -- how often do enough of them agree on the data to make a decision one way or the other?

The hubris by which you parade your liberal bias is astounding, Katie.

You must know that this "Global Warming" charade is merely a new means for liberal Democrats to:

1. levy a punative tax on Americans, based upon "pollution".

2. siphon that tax money to "Global Warming Industries" and "Global Warming Research Institutes"

3. take political contributions from those "Industries" and "Institutes" to fund the political campaigns of Liberal Democrats.

4. Over time, establish a Socialist Dictatorship run by liberal Democrats.

The "jig" is up, Katie.

To Katie & Chris19673,
A few things Al Gore forgot to mention.

http://www.john-daly.com/hockey/hockey.htm
http://www.lse.co.uk/ShowStory.asp?story=CZ434669U
http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/Index

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XttV2C6B8pU

The last is a link to "The Global Warming Swindle" that the uk/ShowStory talks about. The planet has and will continue, to warm and cool, until our sun dies.
Creating mass hysteria, which is what Katie and her colleague's are paid to do, does nothing, but try to sustain ratings, which fails. But the thing its implementation will do, cuts to their so called core belief, and hurts the poor. The billions that will perish in poor countries worldwide will be devastating.
What makes us the greatest country in the world? The amount of food and money we contribute globally, and energy is what makes this happen. Cut back energy output will result in lost production. Lost production equals death.
Something to think about.

Once again Ms Couric is CORRECT in her assessment of the facts. One must realise that when Mr. Gore makes a presentation he speaks in extremes to get our attention. I do this myself when I want to make an impression. The underlying facts are correct and we do have a problem. We all have to make changes since the environment can not currently compensate for our follies. Individually it can be as simple as wearing a sweater or planting a tree to help. Industries have to make the big changes. They are used to maintaining focus on profit and *** the environment. This must change on a worldwide scale. Don't blame KC or Mr. Gore for telling it as it is. Inaction could doom your children to a miserable life while they have to clean up our mess.

First off: BrainonBoard isn't an idiot or any of the other nasty names some have been calling him/her but, not nearly as brainy as he/she believes either. Pretending to be a conservative and then chastizing all the crazies while espousing the liberal "kool-aid" point of view is the oldest lib trick in the book! Your aren't an idiot! You are a fraud and a coward - I don't believe you have one conservative bone in your body. You have a right to your opinions, but at least be honest about your bias. We all have points of view that are informed by our political leanings. And as for this so called scientific concensus - the IPCC has listed scientists as a part of there conscensus who have resigned from the project because their alternative points of view have been completey ignored. Enstien began trying to disprove his theory of relativity the second after he discovered it - that is good science...the scientific way. If global warming is an indisputable fact, why not debate it? And why doesn't Al Gore practice what he preaches. He doesn't need 4 houses and he could make all of his appearances via satellite while still contributing to his BS carbon offsets. The truth is what he is saying is that because he is rich and can pay to offset his lifestyle he can live as he pleases. If the impending doom is so great shouldn't he be living the green life and using his Tabacco millions to offset all the horrble conservative and climate heretic's lifestyles?

Your biased reporting is more evident then ever. Mr. Gore who buys CO2 credits from a company he owns!! Geeze, you think he has a huge monetary motive for selling his "global load" across the world?

Oh and former Vice President Gore, despite being given major preferential treatment, has violated the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee%u2019s (EPW) hearing rules. His testimony was received by the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee.

Gore's testimony was given to Committee members just one minute before his scheduled House appearance and mere hours before his scheduled Senate appearance.

EPW committee%u2019s 48 hour rule that requires all witnesses before EPW to submit their testimony in advance. The GOP minority on the EPW committee then agreed to waive the 48 hour rule in favor of allowing Gore to submit his testimony 24 hours before the hearing.

He gave his testimony a ONE MINUTE notice to the Committee. Why was that? More importantly, as a news reporter, why didn't you ask Gore that?

If Gore had been a Republican, a grand-jury would of been convened for this violation.

Democrats get a free pass to "break the rules", you can leave someone to drown, use the "N" word, take bribes and keep 90K in your fridge, have an affair with a male intern(Barney Frank) and you and other liberals "give them a round of applause". You know, like the Democrats did for Barney.

The definition of scientific consensus from Wikipedia: "Scientific consensus is the collective judgment, position, and opinion of the community of scientists in a particular field of science at a particular time. Scientific consensus is not, by itself, a scientific argument, and is not part of the scientific method; however, the content of the consensus may itself be based on both scientific arguments and the scientific method."

The scientific consensus at my house is that algore and you need a v-chip implant so you can invent the internet again and win another award for the movie Love Story which was about your life while scaming the world with a Y2K scare. We also have consensus that you are 3rd rate con artists.

Have a warm day.

It's nice to see all of the lemmings following Gore over the hill. The consensus is far from clear, but I suppose those that oppose or even question this view will now be blacklisted. This is nothing but environmental McCarthyism.

Katie,

Unfortunately, I have to put you in the same categorie as Heidi Cullen over at the weather channel - "Just another pretty face."

Does anyone in the MSM think for themselves anymore?
Does anyone in the MSM question or investigate anymore?
Does anyone in the MSM not drink Al Gore's kool-aid?

It's the Sun!!

1. Cosmic Rays are constantly bombarding the planet. When they combine with water vapor they form clouds, which deflect sunlight from the earth, resulting in cooler temps.
2. During high sun-spot activity the solar winds increase and divert a large portion of the cosmic rays from the earth. This results in less cloud formation. It is during these periods of high sun-spot activity that the earth's temp warms.

For a more complete analysis and if you dare to be enlightened then check out google video and search terms "global + swindle".

You will also discover an amazing correlation between temps and CO2. And also, how PM Margaret Thatcher started it all!!

So, all you limousine and Gulfstream libs will be able to drive and fly guilt-free and no-longer need to waste money on carbon credits.

BrainOnBoard,

"ITS THE SUN STUPID"

The polar Icecaps on Mars are also getting smaller.

Isn't it amazing that one volcano goes off and it has a bigger impact on global temperature that all of Mankind.

Hmmm,

The planet has gone through several Ice ages and subsequent warmings long before man was on the seen with our SUV's.

Yes the planet is Warming you dope but mans causing it is a joke. You've bought into this *** hook line and sinker.

Supposedly all the scientists that agree on this have nothing to gain except for the billions of dollars in research grant money. I guess that wouldn't be a possiblity or incentive to jump on board.

Global warming is the new politically correct religion of the 21st century. It has become political and is all about tearing the US down.
An equalization of economies. Cripple the US economy so the rest of the world can catch up.

Pull your head out of your A**. We will continue to warm up until the Sun decides to play nicer with us and than we will start to cool.

Like all educated conservatives, I understand AGW. Think for yourself. Your BS that ultra-competetive scientists across the world share an agenda is pathetic. And please, ancient history when MY church tried to suppress the SCIENTIFIC discovery that we weren't the center of the universe hurts your cause (by your cause I mean that of the big biz that owns you). Claiming my church helped forward that scientific discovery is false and BESIDE THE POINT. Return to THE PRESENT, or pretend that only liberals beleive AGW. And accuse me of lying about my views here while admiring the business end of any one of my "liberal" gun collection.

Shouting "its the sun stupid" is goofy. That the sun hasn't been getting brighter since the 1950s when we started measuring, but we're still getting warmer might be a clue that its mostly the billions of tons of CO2, stupid.
bironetworks
Katie is liberal, but you have to be a brainless simp to think that the billions of tons of GHGs PROVEN to increase temps is somehow NOT increasing temps, with no explanation whatsoever.

Most of us regardless of politics can read the following: http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf instead of pretending it isn't happening.

The movie Mr. Gore is trying to pass off as scientific evidence of global warming is long on bs and short on scientific fact. Has anyone ever found proof of his ficticious Island submerged by the rising sea level? It's bad enough they get together every few weeks to give one another awards for poor performance, but it's truly sad to see a major network news anchor show such bias by becoming part of the hollywierd cheering section supporting this trash.

Man's CO2 emissions aren't a problem, other than with pollution and issues not associated with climate change. If the research that shows CO2 lagging earth temperature by 800 years is true, then where's Al Gore's repudiation of that research. There are a lot of different ways different scientists can study climate change, and I've read enough comment from eminent scientists WHO ARE NAMED to solidify my opinion. Where are all the Al Gore scientists?

I want to see some discussion by real experts in their scientific fields on climate change. Do you understand Katie? Don't you people understand the power of the internet, and do you not see that the vast majority of all comments on this subject in most forums are in disagreement with Al Gore. We can find information in this day and age on the internet that we would have never have heard about in the past, and most politicians think we are still in the dark. Not so, thank God. Katie do you know what Galileo had to endure because the "consensus" in his day was that the sun moves around the earth? Now you have discovered that the sun orbits around Al Gore, and he is the center of the universe. Enlightenment is a wonderful thing.

Katie is washed up and out of touch. For a news reporter Katie, haven't you seen the invitation from the Viscount of Scotland inviting Mr Al Gore to defend his exagerations and lies about
his attention seeking, global warming? I believe Mr. Gore suffered a mental breakdown when he LOST the election and isn't mentally healty yet. He and you seem to be in the same mental/physical condition these days.

Check it out Katie.
Excerpt:

Al Gore Challenged to International TV Debate on Global Warming

PERTH, Scotland, March 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In a formal
invitation sent to former Vice-President Al Gore's Tennessee address and
released to the public, Lord Monckton has thrown down the gauntlet to
challenge Gore to what he terms "the Second Great Debate," an
internationally televised, head-to-head, nation-unto-nation confrontation
on the question, "That our effect on climate is not dangerous."

Monckton, a former policy adviser to Margaret Thatcher during her years
as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, said, "A careful study of the
substantial corpus of peer-reviewed science reveals that Mr. Gore's film,
An Inconvenient Truth, is a foofaraw of pseudo-science, exaggerations, and
errors, now being peddled to innocent schoolchildren worldwide."
