Wylie Opry: 35 Years Later

The Wylie Opry started in a little school house over thirty five years ago but moved to its Ballard Street location after just a few years.

"That's when I came here, I've been here ever since 1984 and I managed it up to 1999" said Wylie Opry owner LaGrant Gable.

It was open every Friday and Saturday night until the hail storm this last April.  The excitement was electric for the Grand Re-opening this month.

"This is kind of the centerpiece of the Square, when this place shut down everybody kind of wandered their own way so now we are getting them all back together" said Opry performer Larry Massey.

Saturday night at The Wylie Opry is as much as a social event as a music experience.  Everybody knows everybody and even a first timer, like myself, was made to feel right at home.

"They come as much to be with each other.  They see these people every week, most of them don't even see their kids that often" Gable noted.
