The railroad still plays a role in shaping Wylie's destiny.
Kansas City Southern Railroad just a few years ago spent $50 million and used 100 acres to build a state-of-the art rail hub in Wylie, one which eclipsed the old Dallas hub.
But not everyone wanted to see the railroad build the new terminal in Wylie, at first.
And while the city doesn't see any direct revenue from the expansive terminal, the project has allowed profitable development of other properties in the area.
