Winter Returns This Weekend
It's an El Nino winter so no surprise we are getting periods of mild winter weather. Just look at the number of freezes at DFW Airport this winter so far, only eight. Just a couple of winter's ago we had logged 31 by Jan. 14th, a record:
Five of those freezes so far this winter arrived in the new year. This week it's been a cake walk in regards to winter weather, four days in a row of 60's for highs. That streak ends tomorrow:
But today it'll be a little breezy but nice. Lots of sunshine will warm us into the low 60's. Wind will diminish later today:
Tomorrow is the big change. A strong low pressure system is developing quickly over the Texas panhandle. It will bring in a clouds and a cold rain. Most of this rain will fall in the second half of the day tomorrow. For the first half of the day it will cold enough just above surface to get some sleet and snow mix in with the light rain:
Rain chances are good for tomorrow but rainfall amounts will be light. We don't expect to see anything stick to the ground around most of north Texas but there is a chance enough snow could fall to stick along the Red River counties.
It'll be a little nice on Sunday with the sunshine returning and a southeast wind. Another cold front arrives late Sunday to push the temperatures back down to the 40's for Monday. It looks like a mostly cloudy day for MLK day. It'll warm up to the 60's again on Tuesday with strong winds. We'll keep small chances of rain in the forecast the rest of the work week:
