Weatherford shooting under investigation involving off-duty Arlington police officer, authorities say

Off-duty Arlington officer involved in shooting following business burglary

A shooting involving an off-duty Arlington police officer Sunday afternoon is under investigation in Weatherford, authorities said.

Police were called to a shooting around 1 p.m. in the 2500 block of East I-20, according to Weatherford police and the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

A business was being burglarized, TxDPS said, and the business owner stopped the burglary.

Arlington police confirm an off-duty officer was involved and is not injured. Per department policy, the officer has been placed on leave. It is unknown if any other parties were injured.

The investigation is ongoing, Weatherford police said, and TxDPS and the Texas Rangers are assisting the investigation. 

Weatherford police said there is no immediate threat to the public.
