WATAUGA (CBSDFW) - A 14-year-old Watauga boy died Sunday after he was hit by a car. Police have not cited or charged the driver but said Monday they are still investigating.
Friends of Devon Jesse said the woman driving the car that hit him, didn't stop initially after the incident. They said a nearby business owner got the woman to turn around and return to the scene. Cody Ray, who was with Jesse when he was hit, said the driver told him she thought she hit a dog.
Jesse was hit crossing Watauga Rd. near Saramac Dr. The road is being repaved but police said work crews were not in the area when the incident happened. He had a skateboard with him but police don't know if he was riding it or walking when he crossed the road.
A small memorial was building at the site Monday. Renee Jesse, the boy's mother, said she was amazed at the amount of support from her son's friends. They were planning a large gathering at the site Tuesday night.
Birdville ISD had counselors available for students at Haltom High School Monday where Jesse was a student.
