Director Spike Jonze is known for his movies and music videos.  He's not normally involved in TV commercials.

He's done Being John Malkovich, Where The Wild Things Are, videos with Daft Punk, Kanye West.  He also helped create the TV series Jackass for MTV.

What is he doing making a longform TV commercial?

He made this one and it's gone super-viral.
