DALLAS (CBSDFW) - If you've got holiday presents to send and are planning to mail them today, expect a long wait at the post office.

This is the busiest shipping day of the year for the US Postal Service. It's one of the last few days to get gifts and cards in the mail so they're guaranteed to arrive in time for Christmas.

Some North Texans confess they haven't mailed their presents yet.

"I'm a natural born procrastinator," says David Schafer.

Schafer isn't the only one. Others say they just haven't had the time to mail their gifts, but it is on this week's to-do list.

"I'll definitely get my presents in the mail this week," says Lynn Carson, who has family in North Carolina. "I'll probably send them by express mail since I'm not sure they'll get there in time otherwise."

Other North Texans say most of their family lives in the area, which means they don't have to mail gifts anywhere. They count themselves lucky for that.

"I don't have to send a single thing," one woman says. "All my family is here in Dallas."

Today is also expected to be a busy day online for the postal service. About 7 million people are expected to visit their website.

About 600 million packages and cards are expected to be shipped nationwide.
