A major Dallas highway was shut down Monday evening after a pedestrian was struck and killed, prompting a police investigation.

The southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75 near Lovers Lane were closed just after 5:30 p.m., according to the Texas Department of Transportation. All lanes reopened shortly after 7:15 p.m.

Dallas police said officers responded to the scene on North Central Expressway southbound near West Lovers Lane, where a pedestrian had been hit by oncoming traffic. The individual was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

TxDOT traffic cameras showed all southbound lanes at a complete standstill during the closure. Northbound lanes were not affected.
