Police searching for suspect after man shot, killed outside Uptown Dallas Wells Fargo bank branch

Police still searching for suspect in fatal shooting at Uptown Dallas shopping center

DALLAS -  Dallas police are still actively searching for a suspect following a shooting incident at a popular Uptown shopping center. The victim, identified as 46-year-old Roderick Butler, was fatally shot on the sidewalk around 5 p.m.

Now the victim's family is seeking answers in the wake of the tragedy.

So far, Dallas police have yet to release information regarding a motive or the possible suspect, despite visible cameras in the area pointed directly at the sidewalk where the incident took place. They did say that the suspect fled the scene through parking lots toward Maple Avenue.

Employees in the area recognized Butler as a familiar presence, often seen walking or sitting on a bench with bags nearby.

Family members shared that Butler, known for his kindness, had struggled with mental health issues but would never harm anyone. The victim's mother, Tonie Butler, expressed the difficulty of losing her son and the desire to understand why he was targeted.

"I would love to know the answer. And I just hadn't been too long losing my husband. So it's very difficult," Tonie Butler said.

When asked what the community should know about her son, Tonie emphasized his enjoyment of walking, friendliness, and his non-threatening nature. The victim's mother also clarified that her son did not bank at the location.

The family is hopeful that investigators will have more information soon and is urging anyone with relevant details to come forward.
