DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Classmates of some of children who are being monitored by health officials, say they are worried about their friends.

George Catalan attends Tasby Middle School. He says his friend was pulled out of class during third period. County health workers are monitoring five children among a dozen people who had contact with the patient being treated for Ebola.

Catalan says the relatives of the patient, who live at the Ivy Apartments in Vickery Meadow, are nice people.

"He's one of our best friends," said Catalan of his friend.

DISD is keeping the five students home from five schools, mostly to calm fears. The county health department is checking the temperature and possible symptoms of the students.

Dallas County Health and Human Services says it is highly unlikely that the virus has spread.

As a precaution, DISD sent letters home for parents, detailing steps taken, like extra nurses on the five campuses and extra custodians.

It could be three weeks before the students in contact return to school.

At the Ivy Apartments, some residents are hoping for more information on what Ebola is, and what to do next.

The Vickery Meadow neighborhood is home to many immigrant families. As many as 33 languages are spoken in the highly populated neighborhood.

"I'm not really familiar with how you can be affected by Ebola. I guess they need to just take people to the hospital?" said Ali.

Neighbors are still looking to see if CDC or local health workers will stop by to answer questions or pass out pamphlets.
