Tropical Storm Nate Forms, May Reach US Coast By Weekend

Tropical Storm Nate has formed in the Caribbean Sea, near coast of Nicaragua. The storm is forecast to move north into the Gulf of Mexico and toward US Gulf Coast by the weekend.

Nate's maximum sustained winds Thursday morning are near 40 mph (65 kph) and the U.S. National Hurricane Center says strengthening is likely as the storm moves over the northwestern Caribbean Sea Thursday night and Friday.

Tropical Storm Nate becomes the 16th named storm of the 2017 hurricane season, according to the National Hurricane Center.
