FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Using a set of North Texas train tracks as a thoroughfare proved disastrous for two people in Fort Worth. A Trinity Railway Express (TRE) train crashed into their vehicle and injured both people inside, one of them critically.

Two men weren't crossing, but driving a pickup truck on the train tracks along Industrial Boulevard, near Mosier Valley Road.

While they were on the tracks a westbound train came up behind the truck and was unable to stop. The driver tried to get off the trucks but couldn't and the TRE train hit the back of the truck. The impact from the crash rolled the vehicle over the tracks and pushed it down an incline into a wooded area.

It took some time for Fort Worth Fire Department first-responders to get the men out of the vehicle.

Both the driver and the passenger in the truck were injured -- they were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital. One man's injuries were so serious that he is now in ICU. The other man's injuries are not life threatening.

There were about 50 passengers on the TRE train at the time of the crash. No one onboard was injured. The train, which was headed to Centreport Station, was taken out of service. The passengers were moved to another train and continued on to their destinations.
