Today's @CBSDFW STORM TEAM BLOG: Break in the Heat After School Starts

This weekend will be a hot reminder that it is still August.  Temps will be running about 5 degrees above normal, hitting the triple digits both days.

If you're planning to hit area lakes or reservoirs to stay cool and celebrate the last weekend of the summer for most North Texas students, the levels are still below normal pool stage at every area lake.

It's been an interesting summer.  Heat has built but then doesn't last long as we've seen fairly regular rain events.  We have a surplus of rainfall for the summer, but still running a severe deficit for the year.

The outlooks for fall are coming in and as expected, Texas is forecast to be at, or maybe even slightly cooler than, normal and wetter than normal.  A weak El Nino is developing in the Pacific, which usually brings us this seasonal weather pattern.

But fall isn't here yet, so the 7day forecast is hot.  There will be some relief next week as a weak cold front gets closer to us Wednesday into Thursday.
