Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for parts of North Texas

NORTH TEXAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is issued for parts of North Texas through 2 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service says the line of storms is continuing to push south and east into North Texas. A few of the storms may become severe and produce heavy rain over the next couple of hours. 

Wind gusts up to 70 mph and half-dollar-sized hail are possible.    

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Collin, Dallas, and Hunt counties until 1 a.m. and in Grayson County until midnight.

Frisco police said there were a few reported injuries at Toyota Stadium as the storm moved in and fans attending the FC Dallas game took shelter. 

According to the Frisco Fire Department, two people were injured as a result of events related to the weather. One of the patients, an 8-year-old, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Considerable tree damage is likely as well as mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. 

This is the area that we will need to watch for more storm development and strengthening.

Around 8 p.m., the FAA put up a ground stop for flights arriving at DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field due to the storms moving into the area. The ground stop at DFW was canceled around 11 p.m.
