Third Case Of Chikungunya Virus Confirmed In Dallas County

DALLAS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas County Health Department has confirmed another case of imported Chikungunya virus.

The health department says the patient was infected with the virus during a recent trip to an endemic country.

The victim is the third this year in Dallas county.

Chikungunya is transmitted by mosquitoes. It causes high fever and severe joint pain. It generally doesn't cause death, but some people can experience severe complications.

There is no specific medicine to treat it - and no vaccine.
