The Great Backyard Bird Count Is Underway

TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) — People in Texas and all over the world are taking part in the first day of the Great Backyard Bird Count.

According to their website, the count was the "first online citizen-science project to collect data on wild birds" and display those results as they come in.

Organizers say more than 100,000 people participate in the four-day count each February. last year nearly 5,100 species of birds were counted.

The count helps scientists understand the lives of birds around the globe.

Thoe participating don't have to block out hours, and hours of time. It's only required that participants spend at least 15 minutes counting birds on one or more days of the count.
