NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - We gave you fair warning -- now it's down to the wire to get those gifts in the mail. Today is the first holiday shipping deadline for the United States Postal Service (USPS) and other delivery services.

With about 10 shopping days left, the Postal Service cutoff for shipping regular ground packages in time for Christmas is today.

Of course if you're not done shopping that's okay... you'll just have to pay more. The absolute last day to get packages and cards mailed from the post office is December 23 and it will require Priority Mail Express shipping.

Marilyn Kerwin made it to the post office before the lines started to form. "One is going to Aurora, Illinois -- my sister. And the other is going to my very best friend in Houston and another is going to a little boy out in Pennsylvania," she said.

For ground delivery, today is also a deadline at FedEx. Operations Manager Idalia Matchus had advice about getting delivery by Christmas Day. "Don't procrastinate and make sure you get your packages to the FedEx facility by December 23," she said. "For FedEx Ground it's December 15."

If you're sending your packages through UPS you'll also have to get those gifts in the mail today if you want them there by Christmas Eve. If you're going to choose the UPS 3-day select service you'll have until December 19 to ship.
