FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fostering a dog or cat can save the life of an animal in a shelter.
In this week's Texans With Character we learn for one Dallas family it's loving teamwork.
"Taking an animal into your home or a litter of animals into your home was just something that made my heart feel good.
And it has been an incredible experience for my family," said mom Meg Wells.
The animals are from operation kindness. A no-kill-shelter in Carrolton.
They are in need of temporary care. Some are sick and have to be nursed to good health.
"You have to step in and once you do you are holding the little life and bottle feeding it. They have you and it is so rewarding," said Father David Wells
Twin daughters Grace and Claire help with all of the responsibilities of fostering.
"You have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping other animals," explains Claire.
"They are part of our family and they are just really fun to have around," said Grace.
With two dogs and several cats of their own sharing their home and time with a few more four legged friends is a labor of love.
Once the puppies and kittens are well and an adopted family found they are ready for their forever home.
You see them be adopted by people that love them. Then it's all worthwhile," said Meg.
