DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - North Texans certainly don't see snow like this every year. Some kids in Dallas took it all in with screams of joy.

As soon as the snow started coming down a lot of kids and adults instantly thought of one place – Flag Pole Hill, near White Rock Lake.

There were traffic jams on the roads and backups on the hills. With schools letting out, families poured into the park with sleds in hand.

One man said, "We live in the neighborhood and it's always a hot spot, Flag Pole Hill is always a hot spot for people to come. So we just came out her and let the kids enjoy the snow."

Everyone brought their sleds, and a sense of adventure. There were moms, dads, kids, and dogs!

Mother Ursula Fraga said her kid's school closed early, so as soon as she picked them up they headed to the park for some fun.

"It doesn't happen every day. I think they've only seen snow three times and twice this week, so it's something different. Santa Claus brought them these, so that's why we're playing with them."

In Texas, most people don't own authentic sleds, but that didn't stop people from coming out. Necessity if the mother of invention and they said just about anything works.

Improvisation was the key. One person even used a kayak to sled down the snow-covered hill. Others took to the slopes with blow up swimming pools, laundry baskets and cardboard boxes.

The creativity had no limits and thankfully there was just enough snow to make it worth the effort.
