COPPELL (AP) - Retail gasoline prices in Texas have gone up heading into the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

AAA Texas on Wednesday reported the average price at the pump statewide rose 4 cents this week to reach $2.51 per gallon.

The travel group's weekly survey, released a day earlier than usual due to the holiday, shows national prices increased a nickel to reach $2.72 per gallon.

Beaumont has the cheapest gasoline in Texas at $2.44 per gallon. Drivers in El Paso are paying the most statewide at $2.65 per gallon.

AAA officials say gasoline prices have moved higher in recent months, largely due to the global rally in crude prices.

The association predicts about 3.1 million Texans will travel 50 miles or more from home in the Thursday through Monday holiday period.
